Article 133 of the Transport Management Act of Nepal mentions the duties to be performed by the driver in case of an accident.
Sub-section (1) of Article 133 states that if a vehicle has caused an accident or caused any danger or injury to the life of a person, the driver, operator, security guard or other staff working on the vehicle shall immediately make necessary arrangements for the treatment of such person. .
Pursuant to Sub-section (1), if there is no security personnel at the place where the accident took place, the driver should immediately give the information and details of the accident to the nearest police office. It is mentioned that the police have questioned the driver about the accident and he has to tell everything.
There is a legal provision for the police to take the driver into custody and take action immediately in case of a hit and run.

In the case of hit and run, if someone dies immediately or within 21 days, the driver can be sentenced to 3 years to 10 years imprisonment and fine depending on the nature and quantity of the offense.
In recent times, the number of people fleeing accidents has increased as the pressure of vehicles has increased. Experts have been saying that the concerned bodies should conduct many public awareness programs on the duties of drivers after an accident.
