WhatsApp May Soon Let You Transfer Chat History Between Android and iPhone When Changing Phone Numbers

23rd May 2021
"WhatsApp currently allows chats to be transferred when switching phone numbers on the same mobile platform"

According to a report, WhatsApp is working on a way to allow users to transfer their chat history when switching to a new phone with a different phone number.

The new feature appears to be an extension of the ability to transfer WhatsApp chat history from one platform to another — from Android to iOS and vice versa — via a Chat History Migration tool that is currently in testing. Users may be able to transfer media from one platform to another using the Chat History Migration tool. This will assist users who want to switch their WhatsApp accounts between Android and iPhone devices.

According to WABetaInfo, a WhatsApp beta-tracking site, WhatsApp is testing an updated Chat History Migration tool that would allow users to transfer their chat history to not only a new device on a different platform, but also a new device with a different phone number.

For example, if you switch from an existing Android phone to a new iPhone while changing your phone number, you will be able to transfer your existing WhatsApp chat history to the new device.

Users can currently change their phone number without losing any chats on WhatsApp.

If you're switching to a new device or phone number, you can also transfer your chat history.

However, in this case, the new device should be built on the same platform as your old one. This means that if you switch between two iPhone models or two Android phones, you will be able to transfer your chat history. However, WhatsApp does not support transferring chats between Android and iPhone, which the messaging app hopes to change with its Chat History Migration tool.

According to a screenshot shared by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp may have a link that allows you to transfer your chat history when switching devices and phone numbers.

It is important to note, however, that users will only have the option of migrating their chats when they sign in to their WhatsApp account on the new phone for the first time, not later.

In addition to transferring chats, the tool could be used to migrate WhatsApp media from one device to another.

According to WABetaInfo, the feature is currently in development on both WhatsApp for Android and WhatsApp for iPhone. Last month, a couple of references to the Chat History Migration tool were also discovered. There are no details on when it will be available to users, even if it is in beta testing.

WhatsApp is analyzing the possibility of chat history transfer between iOS and android.

6th April 2021
"Shifting the messages between iPhone and Android phones has not yet been possible in messaging apps like WhatsApp."

WhatsApp begins testing the ease of chat history transfer between iOS and Android devices.

According to a 9To5Google report, this feature is part of a strategic change in WhatsApp.

Shifting the messages between iPhone and Android phones has not yet been possible in messaging apps like WhatsApp.

The company had been exploring the possibility of using WhatsApp on multiple devices at the same time and the ability to transfer the chat history between iOS and Android.

There are some apps that claim to be able to transfer the Whatsapp chat history amongst iOS and Android.

But none of them have been officially acknowledged by the Facebook-owned enterprise.

They have been working to improve several features in the app and it is starting to look like the next update may allow users to make the switch.

The users have requested for a while to be able to use the same Whatsapp account on multiple devices.

WhatsApp now has more than 1.5 billion monthly active users who are exchanging nearly 60 billion messages every day.

On February 19, 2014, Facebook acquired WhatsApp for $19 billion, its largest acquisition to date.

Signal takes a jibe at WhatsApp as confusion looms large over its new privacy policy

16th May 2021
"Starting today, WhatsApp will begin taking action against users who have not accepted the privacy policy"

Starting today, WhatsApp will begin taking action against users who have not accepted the privacy policy. No, it will not delete users' accounts, but it will disable some basic features.

Users are still undecided about accepting the privacy policy because there is insufficient information about what it truly entails. Meanwhile, Signal, an encrypted messaging app, has taken full advantage of the opportunity to draw users to its own platform.

A few days before the dreaded May 15 deadline, WhatsApp announced that it would not delete users' accounts if they did not accept the privacy policy by that date.

By posting a cheeky update on Twitter today, WhatsApp reminded users that their accounts will not be deleted.

Since the announcement of its new privacy policy, WhatsApp has been bombarded with complaints from users. Users were first notified about it in January via an in-app notification, with a deadline of February 8 to accept the privacy policy. However, users were outraged by the lack of clarity, and the majority of them migrated to other messaging apps such as Signal and Telegram. Users assumed WhatsApp would share users' private conversations with Facebook, forcing the company to push back the launch date to May 15.

However, the terms and conditions have now been modified. WhatsApp had previously given users an ultimatum to accept the privacy policy in order to continue using the app, but it has now stated that the account will not be deleted. While WhatsApp will not delete the account, it will remove some basic features and turn the app into a dummy app.

“After a few weeks of limited functionality, you will no longer be able to receive incoming calls or notifications, and WhatsApp will no longer send messages or calls to your phone. At that point, users will have to choose whether to accept the new terms or be prevented from using WhatsApp at all,” WhatsApp said in a statement to The Guardian.

WhatsApp will turn into a dummy app if the users don’t accept the new privacy policy.

"WhatsApp‌ ‌had‌ ‌earlier‌ ‌given‌ ‌an‌ ‌ultimatum‌ ‌to‌ ‌users‌ ‌that‌ ‌the‌ ‌users‌ ‌will‌ ‌have‌ ‌to‌ ‌accept‌ ‌the‌ ‌new‌ ‌privacy‌ ‌policy‌ ‌before‌ ‌May‌ ‌15‌ ‌in‌ ‌order‌ ‌to‌ ‌continue‌ ‌using‌ ‌the‌ ‌app"
