Eminent Among us is now available on the Nintendo Switch

18th December 2020
"Among Us had just about half a billion players last month."

Among us, is a 2018 murder mystery game set in space. This game is hyped among the players this year and has successfully become Gamers' favorite.

Among us has grown so popular that it made a splash on social media with news that it is now available on the Nintendo Switch.

The game had just about half a billion players last month. Among us is rooted alike with social deduction party games like Mafia, where a group of innocents is killed by hidden identities known as 'imposters'. Imposters commit murders at night and the team of innocents must determine the guilty before the majority of the group dies.

Recently, Nintendo clarified the support of "Among Us". This game is already available on PC and mobile phones but hasn't yet arrived on consoles. The surprise statement by Nintendo was a part of its showcase of independent games, created on its own rather than large corporations. "Among us" will cost $5 on the Switch.

The game was released by InnerSloth, a three-person company back in 2018. It didn't cause much of a fuss at the time, although it grew popular in countries such as South Korea and Brazil. It wasn't until this summer that the game took off in the United States when a Twitch streamer with a fanbase of 2.8 million viewers began playing.

"Among Us" on Nintendo will be playable on local Wi-Fi or online multiplayer, so gamers can play together in person or find others on the internet. The game relies on players talking to each other to discuss who the killers might be, so Nintendo Switch players may find themselves having to type on their devices frequently to keep the conversation going. That could pose technical difficulties for some as typing on the Switch may feel more troublesome than typing on a PC or smartphone.

Nintendo says 300,000 accounts breached after hack

15th June 2020
"Japanese gaming giant Nintendo has admitted that hackers have breached 300,000 accounts since early April, gaining access to personal information such as birthdays and email addresses but not credit card details."

Japanese gaming giant Nintendo has admitted that hackers have breached 300,000 accounts since early April, gaining access to personal information such as birthdays and email addresses but not credit card details.

An initial hack in April compromised 160,000 accounts and a further 140,000 breaches have been discovered since then, the Kyoto-based firm said in a statement released late Tuesday.

"We deeply apologize for causing trouble and worries to customers," Nintendo said in its statement, pledging to "enhance security... to prevent this happening again."

Hackers broke into Nintendo Network IDs, intended for services on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, and then migrated to Nintendo Accounts, which can be used for purchases at the company's official online store.

Fraudulent purchases from hacked Nintendo Accounts represented only a fraction of total sales, the company said, and it vowed to reimburse victims if it had not already done so.

Nintendo has been enjoying a strong showing from its popular Switch console and blockbuster games including "Animal Crossing", with demand fuelled by players stuck at home because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Nintendo profit zooms as virus has homebodies playing games

6th August 2020
"Nintendo Co.’s profit multiplied more than sixfold in April-June as people stuck at home during the pandemic turned to playing video games."

The Japanese manufacturer of Pokemon and Super Mario games, as well as the Switch console, reported Thursday a profit of 106.4 billion yen ($1 billion) in the fiscal first quarter, up from 16.6 billion yen last year.

Quarterly sales at Kyoto-based Nintendo jumped, doubling to 358 billion yen ($3.4 billion) on-year.

Especially popular was “Animal Crossing: New Horizons,” of which 10 million were sold during the three months, reaching cumulative sales of 20 million. Also popular was “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.”

Nintendo Switch sales, both of the handheld machines and software games, were zooming amid the pandemic.

Nintendo said various online games in its lineup, including those for mobile devices, were also drawing more people.

Although the coronavirus outbreak has swamped economies in the worst contraction since the Great Depression, some businesses like Nintendo are thriving.

Japanese and electronic and entertainment conglomerate Sony Corp., which also has a game unit with its PlayStation series, also reported positive results earlier this week.

Other technology companies, such as Apple and Facebook, are reaping the benefits of people turning in droves to online activities.

Nintendo acknowledged COVID-19 had caused a shortage in parts to produce the Switch, but such problems were being gradually fixed.
