New Skoda Slavia student car is one-off Scala roadster

20th July 2020
"Skoda's seventh car designed and built by vocational students has been revealed, said to be inspired by 1957 speedster prototype."

The seventh ŠKODA Student Concept Car, designed by 31 trainees attending the renowned ŠKODA vocational school, links the past with the present: the uncompromisingly open-top ŠKODA SLAVIA pays homage to this year's ŠKODA AUTO anniversary by commemorating the name of the first bicycles produced by Václav Laurin and Václav Klement after they founded the company in 1895.

The spider variant of the ŠKODA SCALA combines the contemporary compact model's bold and exciting lines with a common design standard from the earliest days of motoring when most automobiles were open-top vehicles. From the first draft to building this one-off car, the students completed every step themselves, with support from their instructors as well as ŠKODA experts in the Design, Production and Technical Development departments.

The students are invited annually to design their dream car together, with previous examples including last year's Mountiaq pick-up and Atero coupé. The Slavia was built by a team of 31 trainees who elected to turn the existing Scala hatchback into a 'sporty spider'.

This, the seventh ŠKODA Student Car since 2014, once again showcases the high standard of training at the ŠKODA vocational school in Mladá Boleslav.

"The students have managed to imbue their vehicle with its own individual character while mastering the engineering challenges involved in turning a closed-body vehicle into an open-top spider,” said Zdeněk Stanke, team leader at the Skoda Academy.

2020 Skoda Octavia interior Teased

6th November 2019
"The brand’s best-seller features a new two-spoke steering wheel. World premiere of the new OCTAVIA on 11 November in Prague"

ŠKODA has released two design sketches providing the first glimpse of the new interior concept for the upcoming OCTAVIA. The ŠKODA best-seller’s new generation will, for the first time ever, feature a multi-level instrument panel and a new steering wheel with two spokes. The world premiere of the fourth-generation ŠKODA OCTAVIA will take place on 11 November in Prague.

The sketches released by ŠKODA Design show the redesigned instrument panel in the new OCTAVIA. Topped by a large, free-standing central display, it’s composed of several layers whose lines and colours reference the signature shape of the ŠKODA grille. The instrument panel’s visual width emphasises the cabin’s generous sense of space. The fourth generation of the most popular model in ŠKODA history once again provides even more interior space than its predecessor.

The new interior concept also includes a steering wheel with a two-spoke design featuring buttons and scroll wheels that make for enhanced ergonomics. In the elegant and tidy centre console, a small rocker switch has taken the place of the familiar selector lever. It uses shift-by-wire technology to electronically communicate the desired DSG transmission setting. Also making its debut in the new OCTAVIA is the Climatronic three-zone air conditioning system.

ŠKODA VISION IN concept study at the Auto Expo 2020 in New Delhi | India 2.0 project

28th April 2022
""The first models being developed as part of the INDIA 2.0 project are on the home stretch, and – by unveiling the ŠKODA VISION IN – we are giving a concrete preview of the first production car.”"

ŠKODA is presenting its VISION IN concept study at the Auto Expo 2020 from 5 to 12 February. The study gives a concrete preview of a new mid-size family SUV and is the first model ever to use the MQB-A0-IN variant of the MQB car platform, which has been specially adapted for the Indian market.

As part of the INDIA 2.0 project, ŠKODA has been responsible for leading Volkswagen Group’s model campaign on the Indian market since June 2018. The consolidation of the three Volkswagen Group passenger-car companies previously represented in India to form the new ŠKODA AUTO Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) in October 2019 marked an important milestone for the project. It enables coordinated, faster decision-making and increases efficiency by exploiting existing synergies. In terms of models, ŠKODA will also be showcasing the KAROQ as a newcomer to the Indian market, the updated SUPERB flagship, the MONTE CARLO and Matte Concept of the RAPID 1.0 TSI, as well as the KODIAQ and the sporty OCTAVIA RS 245.

ŠKODA CEO Bernhard Maier pointed out that, “India is one of the most exciting and most promising growth markets for Volkswagen Group. A year and a half ago, we set the course to help write this story of growth with our INDIA 2.0 project. Together with the Volkswagen brand, we are seeking a combined market share of five percent by 2025, depending on market and segment development. For ŠKODA, India would thus become one of the five largest markets in the world. The first models being developed as part of the INDIA 2.0 project are on the home stretch, and – by unveiling the ŠKODA VISION IN – we are giving a concrete preview of the first production car.”

Gurpratap Boparai, Managing Director of ŠKODA AUTO Volkswagen India Private Limited, added, “For us, localization is the key to success and by opening our Technology Centre in Pune we have created the necessary conditions for this. In the localized MQB-A0-IN variant of the MQB, we now also have the technical prerequisite to offer state-of-the-art, attractive vehicles: they fulfill the latest safety and emission requirements for the Indian market, are in line with our customers’ tastes and are tailored to their needs.”

ŠKODA has continued to evolve its brand-typical design for the VISION IN and, by showcasing it in New Delhi, is giving a concrete preview of the design language for a new, mid-size family model. The Czech car manufacturer will proceed with its SUV campaign in the rapidly growing Indian market by launching the production version of the VISION IN in early 2021. It will be the first production model to use the new, localized MQB-A0-IN platform. The Skoda VISION IN offers an optimum amount of space, perfectly combined with the highest degree of versatility and state-of-the-art technologies. The 4,256-mm-long concept study has a wheelbase of 2,671 mm and is powered by a 1.5 TSI petrol engine that delivers 110 kW (150 PS).

Its elongated lines and long wheelbase make the mid-size SUV concept study appear larger and, alongside the large bonnet and 19-inch (48.26-cm) alloy wheels, bring out the extroverted and incredibly rugged exterior design of the SKODA VISION IN.

The SKODA VISION IN is clearly identifiable as a member of the SKODA SUV family thanks to the partially illuminated crystalline elements in the LED headlights and tail lights as well as on the grille and the striking light strip at the rear. Its bright orange metallic exterior color conveys a zest for life and creativity.
