Things to Consider While Buying an Earphone/ Headsets

Buying earphones/ Earbuds/ Headsets can be a headache sometimes.  There are several things you need to know before buying one.

This article will obviously help you check and know things about earphones before buying them:

Wired or Wireless

The first and foremost thing to do is decide before buying an earphone/headset. There are different types of it; wired and wireless.

It is ok to buy wire earphones if you tend to sit in your chair relaxing and listening to tunes whereas you can choose wireless if you like to move around a lot. So it’s best to decide on how you are going to do your listening.

Type

Sensitivity

If you like to hear loud music, this is what you need to look for in your headphone’s specifications. Sensitivity specifies how loud your headphone can get.

Most headphones are at around 110 dB/mW, anything lower than 85 dB/mW should be strictly avoided.

Impedance

When choosing headphones, it's important to note the impedance and buy according to the source device you intend to use. Headphone impedance represents the amount of power needed to drive a pair of headphones.

Low-impedance headphones require less power to drive, and can therefore easily be used with source devices with weaker amplification, such as smartphones, media players, and other portable devices.

High-impedance headphones require dedicated amplifiers or increased amplification to drive and deliver a more powerful, driven performance as a result.

Moreover, Impedance of 15Ohms and under is low and easy to drive, while impedance 50Ohms and above may require some amplification for best results.

Design and Comfort

Always try and check if the headphone is comfortable for your ears. Moreover, most human ears are non-identical and not every device will suit them.

For in-ears, try to go for a smaller earbud size, which can fit in and doesn't slip off easily.

What to look in a wireless headphone?

25th January 2021
"Put your mind to escape mode!"

Wired headphones are just too uncomfortable for most individuals to use on a regular basis. The only reason many individuals do use wired earphones is that they are relatively inexpensive. Wireless headphones, however, give a totally different experience that should not be missed.

Before purchasing the next pair of wireless headphones, here are some things to consider.

Efficiency of sound

efficiency-of-sound

Audiophiles are not the only ones who should be worried about their headphones' sound quality. It is of utmost importance to consider audio quality before committing to any single pair of wireless headphones.

Many wireless headphones these days are fitted with aptX technology.

To put it plainly, Bluetooth was never designed for audio transfers of high quality, which suggests the audio is compressed, making it sound worse.

With aptX, compression is performed differently to make the quality of audio even more comparable to CDs. However, the trick here is that the aptX technology must be assisted by both the headphones and the audio equipment (speaker or phone, for example). You should also look into sensitivity and impedance for better quality.

Shape, convenience, and size

size

In fact, when looking at wireless headphones, these three areas are what most individuals concentrate on, and for good reason. Many people use a single pair of headphones every day for many hours, so they have to be comfortable and convenient.

Many people would still pay a lot of attention to design, of course. As well as their sleek-looking counterparts, wireless headphones that do not look good simply do not sell.

Wireless earphones come in three forms: in-ear, on-ear, and over-ear.

In-ear may be self-explanatory, but with many companies seeking to revolutionize its shape and functionality, it is actually the single most creative field currently.

On-ear headphones are those that are actually resting but not entirely enclosing on top of the ears. In addition, the whole ear is surrounded by over-ear headphones. The distinction between the two is that, with louder volumes and stronger bass, the latter allows for better sound quality, but may not be as convenient or portable.

Pairing and Controls

controls

If you are used to wiring headphones, then you are more likely to use physical buttons along the wire to monitor items like volume or play/pause. However, wireless headphones can be very different.

Many wireless headphones on the earpieces themselves have buttons. Some of them stand out, but instead, the most recent ones have touch controls.

By voice or by external apps, a limited number may also be managed.

The process and style of control are much more important than you would believe. Most manufacturers prefer design rather than functionality and everything depends on your specifications. Some of the controls, for example, may not be acceptable for gym-goers, while others might be ideal for that particular purpose. How the headphones can be combined with an external computer is another factor to be considered. Most just use Bluetooth to link up with an external speaker or phone, but some may also have NFC capability.

Others also integrate all technologies into one. That means you can pair them via Bluetooth or just tap on the headphones with an NFC-enabled device (such as your smartphone).

Life of the battery

The fact that wireless headphones have a restricted battery life may be an unfamiliar idea for those of you who have only ever used wired headphones. This is, however, an essential aspect of wireless headphones and something that should be considered very important. Most wireless headphones give you a decent battery life of a few hours, so you are most likely to be able to use them for quite a few hours. However, if you need an extended battery life for some reason, then you will need to do some more testing.

Charging time is another thing to remember here. If when you come back from work, you fail to plug your wireless headphones in, so the next day you will not be able to use them.

Cost

It is time to talk about costs, having gone through most of the items you should consider before making a purchase. Premium wireless headphones, as with most other items in existence, come at a premium price.

You should expect to pay quite a lot of money for the privilege if you are looking for wireless headphones with great noise cancellation, advanced features, great design, and fantastic sound quality.

But if all you are searching for is a comfortable pair of wireless headphones, a cheaper pair will do the trick just fine for some easy music listening and/or voice chat.
