NTC honors the frontline health professionals with free calls, in its new offer ”Thank You Healthcare Worker”

25th May 2021
"Nepal Telecom (NTC) brings “Thank You Healthcare Worker Offer” in appreciation of the health professionals for their relentless service in the ongoing COVID-19 crisis."

Nepal Telecom (NTC) brings “Thank You Healthcare Worker Offer” in appreciation of the health professionals for their relentless service in the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. The health care workers including doctors, nurses will get one month of free unlimited calls.

Nepal Telecom (NTC) hopes that the offer will keep the frontline doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other health professionals motivated in their humble duties. The state-owned telecom is paying its own homage to the medical professionals who have committed themselves round the clock. The company signed the agreement with the representatives from Nepal Medical Council, Nepal Nursing Council, Nepal Pharmacy Council, Nepal Health Professionals Council, Nepal Ayurvedic Medical Council. Nepal Medical Council already announced the same free call offer for the doctors registered under them.

The offer will allow health professionals free voice calls for a month within its network and is applicable on both prepaid and postpaid plans. However, the rental charge on postpaid SIM will remain intact.

Health professionals will acquire this offer after their concerned councils (Nepal Doctors Council/ Nepal Nursing Council/ Nepal Pharmacy Council/ Nepal Health Professionals Council and Nepal Ayurvedic Medical Council) provide their names and contacts on their official application with the letterhead.

The service will be available only to the professionals who have SIM on their own names. However, NTC has provisioned that health professionals could submit an application with their council’s official letter pad to receive a dedicated SIM card.

Similarly, health professionals can choose to obtain a SIM through their council’s ID card. This will require a regular form fill-up. They can submit the document to the nearest NTC counter and get an NTC SIM card immediately. The offer will activate by default.

The offer comes as part of NTC’s Corporate Social Responsibility. The offer can also see an extension if the crisis sustains further. The need for communication has become most significant during such crises. Understandably, the frequency and the length of calls can never be as high as now. Therefore, it is a praiseworthy gesture by NTC to facilitate the health workers’ need for connectivity.

GMS support for Honor 50 series outside of China

17th June 2021
"The Honor 50 and 50 Pro can output over a billion colors thanks to their 10-bit color depth"

In China, Honor has officially unveiled the Honor 50 series. After severing ties with Huawei last year, this is the company's first flagship product. The essential specifications and features of the Honor 50 Series (Honor 50, 50 SE, and 50 Pro), as well as their estimated price in Nepal, will be discussed here.

Overview of the Honor 50 and Honor 50 Pro:

Display and Design

The Honor 50 5G has a 6.57-inch AMOLED FHD+ display with a camera cutout in the center. The 50 Pro 5G, on the other hand, has a slightly larger AMOLED screen, measuring 6.72-inches. Apart from the larger display, the Honor 50 Pro sports a pill-shaped camera cutout that sets it apart from the regular Honor 50.

The remainder of the display characteristics are the same on both phones. The Honor 50 and 50 Pro can output over a billion colors thanks to their 10-bit color depth. The pair is also HDR certified and features a 120Hz dynamic refresh rate and 300Hz touch sampling rate.

The two phones have a two-tier camera module on the back. On top of a pill-shaped base, two circular rings protrude. The primary sensor is enclosed by the upper ring, while the rest of the camera equipment is contained by the lower ring.

Performance

Qualcomm's Snapdragon 778G chipset is in charge underneath. It's worth noting that the Honor 50 and 50 Pro are the first devices to feature the chipset. The Snapdragon 778G is a scaled-down version of the Snapdragon 780G. It is based on TSMC's 6nm node rather than Samsung's 5nm.

In other news, Honor's choice to severe relations with Huawei has paid off. For the global market, the company has stated that its phones and tablets would come with Google Mobile Services (GMS). It is unclear whether GMS will be pushed to older cellphones. Honor has confirmed that the 50 series will be available in 40 different markets, however the specific dates have yet to be announced.

Camera

The primary camera in the quad-camera arrangement in the back is the 108MP ISOCELL HM2. By default, this 1/1.52-inch sensor captures 12MP images utilizing the non-binning technique. The rest of the configuration is disappointing for a phone in this price range. Honor has integrated an 8MP ultrawide camera as well as two 2MP auxiliary sensors.

A 32MP front-facing camera is available for selfies. It is also accompanied with a 12MP ultrawide camera in the Pro variant.

Moving on, the basic model's 4,300mAh battery is larger than the Pro model's 4,000mAh cell. The Pro version, on the other hand, features a quicker charging rate of 100W to compensate for the smaller battery. The normal model, on the other hand, need 66W to charge.

Honor 50, 50 Pro 5G Specifications:

  • Display:

    • Honor 50: 6.57″ FHD OLED

    • Honor 50 Pro: 6.72″ FHD OLED

  • Display Properties: 120Hz refresh rate, 300Hz touch sampling rate, HDR

  • Battery: 4300mAh/66W (Honor 50), 4000mAh/100W (Honor 50 Pro)

Overview of the Honor 50 SE:

Moving on, the Honor 50 SE has a 6.78-inch FHD display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. It does, however, employ an LCD panel, unlike its more expensive brothers. Furthermore, the touch sampling rate is limited to 240Hz.

The smartphone is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 900 5G processor on the inside. As a result, dual-5G standby is supported by the phone. The phone may swap between two SIM cards for a continuous 5G connection.

It would have the same camera arrangement as the Honor 50 and 50 Pro if it didn't lack the depth sensor. It has a hefty 4000mAh battery under the hood, which is charged via a 66W fast charger. In just 20 minutes, it can fill the gadget up to 72 percent.

Honor 50 SE 5G Specifications:

  • Display: 6.78-inch LTPS LCD, 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate

  • Resolution: FHD (2388 x 1080), 387 PPI
