A month ago, the new version of Ford EcoSport SE was introduced in India. It differs visually and equipment-wise from the rest of the compact SUV range. These are the key things about the new EcoSport SE that you need to know about.

1. The design of Ford EcoSport SE

The EcoSport SE variant can't be told from the front, except the rest of the range. The biggest change is the lack of a spare tire attached to the back. The rear design was also revised since the mounting on the plate mounted from the back button to the center of the tailgate and the bumper is covered with a silver plate.

2. Ford EcoSport SE: Usefulness

Aside from a lighter cabin theme, the interior of the EcoSport SE is identical to that of the other variants, which have an all-black theme. The cabin is comfortable, and the build quality is good; however, a tyre repair kit takes up some space in the SE's 352-litre boot. If you do get a puncture, the kit can be used to temporarily repair the tyre until you can get to an authorized repair facility.

There is one aspect of the EcoSport that is impractical – standard variants and the SE. The tailgate hinges to the left and swings out to the right. This means that in right-hand-drive markets such as India, curb-side access to load the boot is no longer available.

3. Positioning of the Ford EcoSport SE

The EcoSport SE is positioned between the Titanium and S trim levels. The SE also has both petrol and diesel engine options – the 122hp, 1.5-litre petrol, and the 100hp, 1.5-litre diesel – but no automatic transmission. The only automatic version of Ford's compact SUV is the EcoSport Titanium+, which comes with a 1.5-liter petrol engine and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

4. Ford EcoSport SE: Price and Specifications

The EcoSport SE's price has risen in the month since it was introduced – at launch, the petrol was priced at Rs 10.49 lakh, while the diesel was priced at Rs 10.99 lakh. The petrol EcoSport SE now costs Rs 10.69 lakh, while the diesel EcoSport SE costs Rs 11.19 lakh.

At this price point, the SE petrol is approximately Rs 70,000 more expensive than the equivalent Titanium trim; the diesel SE is Rs 1.2 lakh more expensive. For the premium, the SE gets features such as side and curtain airbags, a tyre pressure monitor, ESC, traction control, hill-start assists, auto HID headlights and wipers, cruise control, Ford’s SYNC 3 8.0-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
