Maruti Suzuki production has not been hampered by COVID-19

28th April 2021
"The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on several industries in India, including the automobile industry"

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on several industries in India, including the automobile industry. While production has not been completely halted, some companies are operating with a reduced workforce, while others have suspended production until May 2021. However, Maruti Suzuki India stated today that the company's production has not been hampered by the government's pandemic or COVID-19 restrictions. Speaking to the media virtually following the company's board meeting to discuss the financial results for Q4 FY2021, R.C. Bhargava, Chairman, Maruti Suzuki India, stated that production at the company's plants is at full capacity.

Addressing the question regarding the impact on production due to COVID-19, Bhargava said, "We are not under a lockdown right now. Unlike the nation-wide lockdown imposed last year, only 2 or 3 states have gone into lockdown, and that too with some exceptions that allow several companies to function"

Currently, only Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Delhi have imposed lockdowns, with some exceptions, due to an increase in COVID-19 cases. While state governments have not imposed any restrictions on vehicle production, the lockdown has impacted certain Indian automakers. Tata Motors, for example, is operating its Pune plant with a reduced workforce, whereas MG Motor India has announced a 7-day production halt at its Halol plant in Gujarat. Toyota, too, has suspended vehicle production at its Bidadi plant for three weeks. Maruti Suzuki India currently has two manufacturing facilities in India, in Gurugram and Manesar, both of which are located in the state of Haryana, which has not been immigrated.

Maruti Suzuki India currently operates two manufacturing plants in India, in Gurugram and Manesar, both of which are in the state of Haryana, which has not imposed a lockdown. Of course, there is Suzuki Motor Gujarat in Hansalpur, Ahmedabad, which is wholly owned by Suzuki Motor Corporation and provides vehicles to Maruti Suzuki India.

Toyota Urban Cruiser SUV launched in India: Based On Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza

29th April 2022
"The Toyota Urban Cruiser comes out as the second installment under the Toyota-Suzuki alliance in India."

Toyota on Wednesday launched the Urban Cruiser SUV in the Indian market. The company has announced that the deliveries of the new SUV will start from mid-October.

The Urban Cruiser has been launched in three variants - Mid-Grade, High-Grade and Premium-Grade.

Urban Cruiser

The Urban Cruiser SUV comes out as the second installment under the Toyota-Suzuki alliance in India after the Glanza which is a rebadged Maruti Baleno. The Urban Cruiser is a spin-off of the Maruti Vitara Brezza and sports the same exterior design and styling.

Its color palette comprises 6 monotone color options - Blue, Brown, White, Orange, Silver, and Grey, and three dual-tone colors - Blue/Black, Brown/Black, and Orange/White.

Urban Cruiser

The Urban Cruiser gets a new bold and dynamic grille, LED projector headlamp, and LED fog lamps. It rolls on diamond-cut 16-inch alloy wheels which look premium and lend it a sporty appeal. Some of its other highlights include a smart play-cast touchscreen, dual-tone premium interiors, rain-sensing wipers, automatic climate control (standard across all variants), cruise control, and an electrochromic rear view mirror.

The Urban Cruiser also gets features such as torque assist, regenerative braking, and an idle start/stop system.

It runs on a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol powertrain with an advanced Li-on battery featuring ISG (integrated starter generator). The motor is capable of producing 104bhp and 138Nm of power figures and is mated to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. Toyota Motor Corp and Suzuki Motor Corp (SMC) signed an agreement in 2018 for supplying hybrid and other vehicles to each other in the Indian market. Toyota had already sourced Baleno premium hatchback from Maruti Suzuki India, which is retailed as Glanza.

The price of Toyota Urban Cruiser starts at Rs. 8.88 Lakh and goes up to Rs. 11.58 Lakh.

The SUV will take on Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, and the Mahindra XUV300
