As the Cupertino-based electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer eyes a slice of the largely untapped domestic sustainable automotive market, Tesla has registered its affiliate business in India.

The new firm, Tesla India Motors and Energy Private Limited, is registered in Bengaluru, Karnataka and is listed as a branch of a foreign company, according to the Registrar of Companies (RoC) filing. It also has its registered office in Lavelle Lane, a business district in the southern region.

 

The state government had previously said that Tesla would open a research and development (R&D) center in Bengaluru.

The probable entry of Tesla into India comes at a time when the union and state governments have encouraged greater adoption of green vehicle technology to help lower the carbon footprint. 

Among others, mobility start-ups such as Ola, Uber, Bounce and Vogo have set goals to include more EVs in their respective fleets.

Ola, the company headquartered in Bengaluru, has also ventured into production as it has set up a two-million two-wheeler EV plant at a cost of ~ 2400 crore in Tamil Nadu. Other large companies such as Mahindra, Hero and Hyundai and startups such as Ather are going forward with their respective plans to capture a higher share of India's emerging EV market.

In India and abroad, Elon Musk, who recently took over Amazon Inc's founder Jeff Bezos as the wealthiest person in the world, also enjoys a status that has contributed to the increasing demand for Tesla and its products.

Tesla's battery supplier says it's made a huge breakthrough in battery technology that could power electric-vehicle sales for years to come.

Contemporary Amperex Technology Ltd., the Chinese car-battery giant that supplies Tesla and Volkswagen, is ready to produce a battery that can last 16 years and 2 million kilometers, or 1.24 million miles, the company's chairman, Zeng Yuqun, told Bloomberg over the weekend.

Zeng said the company was ready to start fulfilling orders for the battery but didn't disclose whether anyone had bought any yet. He added that the battery cost about 10% more than average EV batteries.

Battery life is one of the main areas holding back widespread EV adoption, and a long-lasting battery could be transformative for the industry. Batteries are the most expensive part of EVs, so if one with a longer life could be transferred into a new car, it could significantly lower the price. Bloomberg said warranties on EV batteries cover roughly 150,000 miles or eight years.

Reuters reported in May that Tesla was making a million-mile battery with CATL. Sources told Reuters that Tesla planned to launch the new battery in China first as part of a wider strategy to reposition the company. Tesla did not immediately respond to Business Insider's question about whether the battery announced by CATL was developed jointly.

In his interview with Bloomberg, Zeng seemed upbeat about the industry's prospects, which took a downturn with the coronavirus pandemic. "The pandemic may have a lasting effect throughout 2020," he said, "but won't be a major factor next year."

Skoda's new premium SUV Karoq has been unveiled in the Nepali market. MAW Enterprises, the official dealer of Skoda cars for Nepal, has brought the new Skoda Karoq to Nepal. Karoq is available in Nepali market with two variants Ambition and Ambition Plus. The new Skoda is one of the oldest and most established car brands in the world. The Skoda Karoq is also considered to be the safest SUV in its family.

 

The new Skoda Karoq is a SUV with a modern design, class leading safety, intelligent connectivity, premium driving and cabin comfort features. The Karoq comes in a turbocharged diesel engine with 2.0-liter, 6-speed automatic transmission in both variants. Which provides a maximum of 140 bhp of power and 320 Nm of torque. It is 4,382 mm long, 1,841 mm wide and 1,624 mm high. Similarly, it has 2638 mm wheelbase.

Skoda's premium SUV features a signature radiator grille, automatic headlamps, LED headlamps, vehicle speeds, weather-adjustable headlamps and an electrically adjustable panoramic sunroof. This premium SUV has Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and touchscreen infotainment system. There are also features like voice command control, SD card reader, USB port and Bluetooth GSM telephony and audio streaming.

The new Skoda Karoq has an 'Intelligent to Zone Climateronic Air Conditioning System' with 'Air Care Function'. In addition, it has 'Cruise Control' and 'Automatic Rain Sensing Wiper'. Also, SmartLink has been connected for hassle-free mobile connectivity. In Nepal, the Skoda Karoq Ambition is priced at Rs 1 crore 15 lakhs and the Karok Ambition Plus is priced at Rs 1 crore 25 lakhs .
