Different types of Laptop | REVIEWS

17th February 2021
"These are the regular types of laptops!"

As a general definition, the terms notebook and laptop appear to be used interchangeably. Although, while they're not necessarily mutually exclusive, you can split them down into smaller sub-categories.

For example, a convertible (2-in-1) that functions as both a laptop and a tablet may also be an ultra-lightweight one. Also, if you add a keyboard, several gadgets that are built as tablets will also act as laptops. For this, some are specially built.

laptop

Notebook

  • A full-sized laptop that strikes a balance between portability and versatility is the general term.

  • In total size and specification, these may differ significantly: processing power, storage space, memory (RAM), and screen size.

  • They range in price from low-cost budget versions to efficiency and gaming models with high performance.

  • Price range: 200$-1500$

Ultraportable

  • Small, compact, handheld laptops are also identified as ultra-portable (also sometimes called a sub-notebook).

  • Maintaining a super-slim profile suggests that certain functions, such as wider link ports, have to be phased out and the number of connection ports limited. The smallest versions are about a kilogram in weight.

  • Price range: 500$-above

Netbook

  • For a while, these tiny laptops were very popular because they were relatively inexpensive, but the trade-off was that they were often slow and the cost reduction was seen in several ways, particularly in low RAM, CPU speed, and storage.

  • They used the low-powered Intel Atom processor from Intel and were mostly equipped for computation connected to the internet (hence the name "netbook").

  • You'll find more-capable substitutes in tablets, Ultrabooks, and ultraportables these days, particularly Chromebooks.

  • Price range: $200–$600

Chromebook

  • Chromebooks run the operating system ChromeOS (which is based on Linux). These are specifically intended to work with web applications and data stored in the cloud rather than on the laptop itself. Mods from the Chrome Web Store need to be downloaded.

  • Current Chromebook models can run Android applications as well.

  • In some colleges and even corporate groups, Chromebooks are common when many cheaper versions are available and their limited setup provides simplified centralized administration and security.

  • Price range: $200–$500

MacBook

  • Apple's computers come in two families: the ultra-thin13-inch MacBook Air and the and 16-inch high-performance MacBook Pro. They all run the operating system for macOS.

  • Intel's software has been discarded by the new releases and is instead running on Apple's own M1 chipset, which incorporates it on a single chip.

  • This allows Apple full leverage over close hardware and software integration, which has resulted in substantial improvements in speed and battery life.

  • Price range: $899-$1500

Convertible 2 in 1

  • These incorporate the attributes of a smartphone and a laptop.

  • They're also known as hybrids.

  • They can switch between touchscreen tablet mode and conventional keyboard mode easily, transforming mechanics such as detaching, slipping, twisting, and fold-back in a number of ways.

  • The fold-back approach is now used for most models, though a few do have detachable displays.

  • Price range: $200-$1500
