Shangrila Motors Pvt Ltd, the sole authorized distributor of Peugeot & Citroen in Nepal, has opened the company’s “La Maison Citroën” showroom in Thapathali, Kathmandu.

The French automobile company Citroen has a long history of more than 100 years officially introduced the C5 Aircross SUV, the first product in the Nepalese Market.

The C5 Aircross SUV is a premium mid-size 5-seater SUV directly imported from the PSA Vigo assembly plant Spain.

C5 Aircross features:

The C5 Aircross is powered by a 1.6L petrol engine, which delivers 165 bhp and 240 Nm of torque and is paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. 

The C5 Aircross also comes with specially-designed Advanced Comfort seats. The C5 Aircross is packed with convenience features that are now regarded as essentials for today’s well-connected driver. An 8-inch touchscreen infotainment panel incorporates Apple Carplay/Android Auto.

The C5 Aircross is based on Groupe PSA’s EMP2 platform. The SUV measures 4,500mm in length, 2,099mm in width, 1,689mm in height, and 2,730mm in wheelbase length. It has a ground clearance of 230mm and a boot space of 720 litres.

C5 Aircross price and available colours:

Citroën C5 Aircross booking has been opened at NPR 1.35 crores. The Citroen C5 Aircross SUV will be available in seven body colour options – Pearl White, Volcano Red, Perla Nera Black, Cumulus Grey, Polar White, Platinum Grey, and Tijuca Blue. 

Shangrila Motors has also confirmed Citroën C3, a compact SUV from India expected to be introduced in the 1st quarter of 2022 and Citroen C4 EV from France around the 2nd half of 2022.

Citroen, the French automaker, has made its official India debut with the launch of its first product, the C5 Aircross, today. The SUV is available for a starting price of INR 29,90,000 (introductory, ex-showroom, Delhi). In the segment, the said model competes primarily with the Jeep Compass, the upcoming Volkswagen Tiguan facelift, and the Hyundai Tucson. Bookings for the Citroen C5 Aircross SUV are already available in India for a nominal fee of INR 50,000. The launch also marks Groupe PSA's return to the Indian market, making the C5 Aircross an extremely important product for the company.

2021 Citroen C5 Aircross Overview

The vehicle is available in two variants, Feel and Shine, with four color options for customers to choose from. Three of these are dual-tone options. In terms of powertrain, the C5 Aircross is powered by a single 2.0-litre diesel engine capable of producing 175 hp and a peak torque of 400Nm. The transmission is an 8-speed automatic.

Interior and Features

The interior of the car is said to be designed to provide best-in-class comfort. According to the French automaker, no other automaker in India currently talks about the driver and occupants' comfort, but the Citroen C5 Aircross has paid special attention to that.

 A 12.3-inch digital instrument console, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, hands-free parking, dual-zone climate control, an electrically adjustable driver's seat, and power-adjustable ORVMs are among the features available in the spacious cabin. It also comes standard with automatic headlamps and wipers, cruise control, and keyless entry.

The Citroen C5 Aircross features three individual rear seats that slide and recline independently. Additionally, the seats can be folded individually to make more room for occupants or luggage.

 The C5 Aircross comes standard with 6 airbags, ESC, traction control, hill start assist, hill descent control, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, ABS with EBD, and TPMs.

Exterior

The SUV is given a chunky and bold design that immediately draws attention. The car also has a strong road presence. The top-tier Shine variant gets LED headlamps and taillights, as well as a panoramic sunroof, which the Feel variant does not.

Engine

The Citroen C5 Aircross is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine producing 177 bhp and 400 Nm of torque. The engine is coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to the front wheels. The ARAI-certified fuel economy of the C5 Aircross is claimed to be 18.6 kmpl.

In the same space as the upcoming Tata HBX EV and Mahindra eKUV100, Groupe PSA is designing a mass-market electric vehicle for India.

Citroen introduced the premium C5 Aircross SUV to the Indian market earlier this month. The company has already announced plans to expand its range, with the C21 SUV (a competitor to the Sonet and Brezza) set to debut next. According to recent news, the company is also preparing to release a low-cost EV in 2022.

Groupe PSA (Citroen's parent company) intends to concentrate on cleaner vehicles in India, which will include not only electric vehicles but also flex-fuel (ethanol-blended gasoline or bio-fuels) vehicles.

The Citroen EV will be an electric version of the CC21 mini-SUV, which is set to debut in 2021 and will compete against the Maruti Ignis, Ford Freestyle, and the upcoming Tata HBX. The Citroen CC21 EV (dubbed eCC21) will be powered by Citroen's e-CMP architecture, which was created in collaboration with Dongfeng Motor in China. The e-CMP platform can handle batteries with a capacity of up to 50 kWh and an electric motor with a power output of up to 100 kW, with a maximum driving range of between 310 and 340 kilometers. However, to keep costs down, the Indian model is expected to have a smaller battery-motor combination.

According to some sources, the vehicle will be available with a 30kWh battery pack, but we believe that would be a little too pricey for the market segment in which it will be published. The Tata Nexon EV's battery pack has a capacity of 30.2 kWh, while the Mahindra eKUV100 will have a capacity of 15.9 kWh. The forthcoming eCC21 is projected to cost about Rs. 8 lakh, making it one of the most affordable electric vehicles available in India. However, the release date is still a long way off (expected in 2022). By that time, we expect India's EV support infrastructure to have greatly improved, making EV ownership more feasible.

In India, the Citroen eCC21 will face competition from the Tata HBX EV and Mahindra eKUV100. While the former is still awaiting an official announcement, the latter is expected to happen later this year.
