Google Maps new update makes the app more community focused

7th December 2020
"Google Maps is going to update the app making it more community focused."

Google Maps is coming with new features that make the app more focused on community engagement. It is a part of Google Maps' evolution from a directions app to a search-and-answer engine for businesses and customers.

The newest updates in google maps are as follows:-

Direct access to community feed within the app

Google Maps has added a new feature by which Google maps users will be able to access the latest reviews, photos, and posts added to Maps by people they follow.

Messaging for Maps and Search:

Verified companies can now message customers directly from the app, allowing searchers to interact with businesses and ask questions. The business messages section will show up all the messages from customers in the app's updated tab.

Performance insights for businesses

This update being business-focused helps to know how well a company is performing by a number of customer engagements initiated from Maps and Search. This system will provide news insight into businesses' performance and engagement with customers on Google.

Street View images added by users

This update enables Google maps users to submit their own street view images from their phones. People can do this by recording a series of connected images while they move down a path or a street. Google will automatically rotate, and arrange the images.

2020 has been a big year for updates in the app, which was released in 2005 and is now competing for yelp stronger than ever.

Chrome Speed Badging slow loading websites

12th November 2019
"Google is tackling on the slow loading websites by assigning them with a speed warning badge."

Chrome is dominating the browser market share right now with around 65% market share world wide. This near world domination in browser market has brought many useful features and better practices among websites. Google was the one who helped increase in adoption of HTTPs in websites. Now Google is tackling on the slow loading websites by assigning them with a speed warning badge.

Google revealed that they are testing a feature for Chrome called “Speed Badging”. This feature will display badges to the user which website loads fast and which sites are slow as turtle to load.

Chrome team in a blog post wrote "In the future, Chrome may identify sites that typically load fast or slow for users with clear badging," "This may take a number of forms and we plan to experiment with different options, to determine which provides the most value to our users."

In simple words, Chrome will analyze the websites you visit and badge them according to their loading time to warn other users if the website they are visiting are slow. Google hopes that with this feature, developers will speed up their loading time.

Google will give you the new Chromecast for free if you pay for one month of YouTube TV

1st October 2020
"But only for first-time YouTube TV subscribers"

Google just announced a new Chromecast yesterday, and the company is already offering a good deal on one — all you have to do is sign up for YouTube TV and pay for one month of the service. If you want to take advantage of the deal, you should be able to access it here.

There are a few caveats, however. You can only take advantage of this if you’re a first-time YouTube TV subscriber, according to the deal’s terms. You then have to make a payment toward your YouTube TV subscription between October 15th and December 31st in order to receive the offer for the free Chromecast. And the deal is only available in the US.

You should also know that paying $64.99 for one month of YouTube TV costs more than just buying the new Chromecast on its own for $49.99. But if you’ve had your eye on both YouTube TV and the new device, this could be a great deal for you.

The new Chromecast officially named the “Chromecast with Google TV,” differs from its predecessors in having an onboard operating system and a dedicated remote. It also does 4K and supports a large number of streaming services.
