Improved Google Photos editor is rolling out now on Android

1st October 2020
"A better editor powered by machine learning"

Google is starting to roll out a new editing mode for Google Photos on Android, which adds machine learning-powered automatic suggestions, and improved tools for more granular manual controls to help make your photos look even better.

The biggest change is a new “Suggestions” tab in the photo editing menu, which will offer recommendations for edits for the specific photo you’re currently looking at, automatically adjusting things like “brightness, contrast, and portrait effects.” The broad edits are also just a starting point — Google will also show you what edits it made, and let you tweak them further.
To start, Google is offering some basic options for suggestions, like “Enhance” and “Color Pop,” but the company promises it’ll continue to expand its lineup of options optimized around specific types of images (like portraits, landscapes, or sunsets) in the coming months, starting with Pixel phones.

Google is also rolling out a new interface for its general editing tools, for things like brightness, contrast, saturation, warmth, white point, blur, and more, making it easier for users to scroll through each option and adjust it for the image in question.

The new Google Photos editing tools should be rolling out on Android devices today. No iOS release date was announced.

Google plans to invest 10 billion in India

19th July 2020
"Google plans to invest 10 billion in India"

US Technology Company Google plans to invest 10 billion in India in the coming years.

Google has announced a 10 billion investment in India over the next five to seven years. Earlier on Monday, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, announced plans to invest the money through a virtual program called 'Google for India'.

The investment is being made in India through infrastructure construction and share purchase. He said the investment plan was aimed at boosting India's digital economy.

He also said that a lifeline has been created online during the epidemic of Coronavirus, Covid-19. The first Google for India event was held in 2015.

Since then, this program has been organized every year. Monday's event was the sixth program. On Monday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a discussion with Sundar Pichai.

During the discussion, various issues were discussed between them. Modi also discussed the role of technology in the corona virus.

Earlier, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos had pledged to invest 1 billion during his visit to India and pledged help of 10 billion in exports over the next five years.

Google will invest in India, the world's largest power and market after China banned Google.

With more than 500 million active Internet users in India, Google is set to establish its market dominance. The investment will be made under the Google for India Digitization Fund.

Dark mode for Google Maps is Here!

30th September 2020
"Google Maps Dark Theme is Here!"

A dark theme is making its way to Google Maps as some users are reporting. Google is rolling out an app-wide dark mode to Google Maps as of version 10.51.1 running on Android 11.

It seems the change is gradually rolling out on the server-side as updating to the latest version of Google Maps is not enough to see the option appear in the app’s settings menu.

The appearance setting in the app will let you force the dark theme indefinitely or match the Android phone universal system theme setting.

There has always been an automatic night-mode that switches on during navigation when the sun goes down if the user is navigating through a tunnel, but it was never applied when browsing maps or menus.

Is anyone else seeing this update on their end? I have not yet seen the change reflect on my OnePlus 8 Pro running the Oxygen OS 11 Open Beta 2. In a Reddit post, at least one person claims to have received Google Maps dark theme and they posted screenshots for proof. You can see it below, where they now have an “Appearance” option in settings that lets them force light or dark themes, or they can let Google Maps listen to whatever the system theme is set at.
