Fiat Chrysler’s Jeep brand is starting to offer gas-electric hybrid and eventually full electric powertrains across its lineup.

The company rolled out the first of them for the U.S. on Thursday, a plug-in rechargeable Wrangler to go on sale in America, Europe and China early next year.

The Wrangler 4xe can go 40 kilometers on electricity before a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine takes over. Drivers can choose to have an engine-powered generator recharge the batteries (at a higher fuel consumption rate), although it would take about 2.5 hours at 72.4 to 88.5 kilometers per hour to fully replenish them.

The Wrangler 4xe, due in showrooms early next year, will have a 375 horsepower available if electric and gas motors are used at the same time, and the company says it will get the equivalent of 50 miles per gallon of gasoline (21.3 kilometers per liter). It can also run in a hybrid mode, switching between gasoline and electricity to get the most efficiency.

Fiat Chrysler says Jeep will have electric options on each of its vehicles in the next few years. Already it’s introducing plug-in Compass and Renegade small SUVs in Europe.

The market in the U.S. also is unclear for a plug-in Wrangler, or any electric vehicles for that matter, Fiat Chrysler said. Last year in the U.S., only 310,000 plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles were sold, less than 2% of the market.

The price for the plug-in wasn’t revealed, but it will surely be a premium over the gas-powered version. A four-door model for 2021 starts at $31,795.

At the other end of the spectrum, Fiat Chrysler also announced that the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer full-size SUVs will return next year. The company showed off a Grand Wagoneer concept vehicle with a fully electric powertrain.

Jeep Compass's 'Night Eagle' edition is coming to the market. Jeep India will launch it in the Indian market in the next few days.

This edition will only come in black color. This variant uses gloss black color everywhere, which will reflect the night.

The 18-inch alloy wheels are also given a gloss black color. Its dashboard will also be available in black color. Seats, AC vents, and infotainment systems are also provided in gloss black color.

It will have an 8.4-inch U-connect touchscreen infotainment system. It supports Apple Car Play, Android Auto. Also, features like push bottom start, dual-zone climate control, projector headlamps, airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist, ESP, hill start assist will be available.

This is a continuation of the old engine of Jeep Compass. Its 1.4-liter turbo petrol engine delivers a maximum of 162bh of power and 250Nm of torque, while the 2.0 turbo diesel engine delivers 173bh of power and 350Nm of torque.

Shortly after being made public in the Indian market, the Compass Night Eagle Edition will also be available in the Nepali market. MAW Life is the official distributor of Jeep in Nepal.

The new generation Mahindra Thar SUV will be officially unveiled in India on August 15, 2020. The SUV has been spotted again ahead of its debut.

Mahindra & Mahindra is all set to unveil the new generation Thar off-roader SUV in India this week. The SUV will make its debut on August 15, 2020.

The new-generation Mahindra Thar will come with an option of petrol and diesel engines. The petrol mill is expected to be a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol mStallion unit whereas the oil burner is likely to be a 2.2-litre turbocharged motor. Transmission duties will be carried out by a six-speed manual gearbox as standard along with an optional automatic unit.

The upcoming off-roader SUV will continue to sport a boxy silhouette, circular headlamps with LED DRLs, long bonnet, LED tail lights, tailgate-mounted spare wheel, alloy wheels and more. The leaked image also reveals 'Thar' engraving on the LED taillights. The new Thar will also be offered with multi-spoke alloys, which appear to be 18-inch wheels.

Force Motor’s lineup at the Auto Expo 2020 got us our first look at the new Gurkha. Since then, it has stayed out of the spotlight, until now. The next-gen Force Gurkha is likely to hit the market as soon as October during the festive season.

Set for a July launch earlier, plans to launch the off-roader were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now with things settling down and the world adjusting to a new normal, Force Motors will execute those plans despite the delay.

New Gurkha gets some cosmetic changes, which include new optional LED headlights, redesigned front grille and updated bumper upfront as well as the rear. The Force Gurkha’s boxy body stands on 245/70 R16-inch alloy wheels. That’s smaller than rival Thar’s massive 255/65 R18. 

Gurkha specifications

Gurkha will be powered by a 2.6-litre diesel engine that puts out 90PS. The 4-seater’s engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission with a low-range transfer case. It offers an independent suspension setup upfront with a rigid-axle rear arrangement.

It is expected to be priced from INR 9.5 lakh to INR 13.3 lakh and expected to launch by Tihar. One of its rivals will be the upcoming 2020 Mahindra Thar which is set for an October 2 launch.
