Eicher Motor-owned Royal Enfield is the leader in the 350cc and above bike segment in India with brands such as Classic, Himalayan and Interceptor. The company is the first from its industry to share plans about electric motorcycles.

Royal Enfield has developed prototypes of electric bikes and formed an internal team to not just develop products but to choose the right segment for entering the electric motorcycle space, a top company official said.

Royal Enfield’s CEO Vinod Dasari explained how the development of a Royal Enfield electric motorcycle has actually already begun with prototypes currently in development:

“It is not about whether electric will come or not, but it’s a question of when. We did make some prototypes, we have looked at several segments, and we will be adding to the team in the near future.”

Last year, the electric two-wheeler market saw a jump of 20 per cent in volumes to 152,000 units compared to FY19. This was heavily dominated by cheaper and low-powered electric scooters.

Other bikes makers such as Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor Company, Hero MotoCorp, Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha have been working on electric scooters for the Indian market.

Some start-ups such Ultraviolette, Tork Motors, Ather Energy, Revolt Intellicorp and Okinawa have either launched or are in advanced stages of launching an electric motorcycle.

The Bajaj Pulsar 200NS/NS200 is a sports bike made by Bajaj Auto. The NS stands for Naked Sport. British motorcycle producer Royal Enfield is expected to announce a 250cc motorcycle in India in April.

Indian media is publishing pictures that the company is regularly examining.

Fierce competition between motorcycle-producing companies is now seen in the 250cc segment. Now every company is looking to bring a new motorcycle to the 250cc segment. Bajaj has made Dominar 250 cc public while Royal Enfield is in the final preparations.

Since both these products are considered to be suitable for Nepal, our interest has been in the news. Bajaj Dominar 250 will be coming to Nepal a few months from now, and Royal Enfield will be producing a motorcycle with less engine power.

Royal Enfield is reportedly preparing to launch a new product every three months this year.

The 2020 BS-VI-TVS Apache’s most prominent difference is the distinctive-looking headlamp. It is sharper than the previous unit in terms of design and now features full-LED lighting along with LED DRLs. However, the tail lamp and turn indicators continue to be conventionally lit.

Apache RTR 200 4V overview

There isn’t any change to the Apache’s bodywork. It continues to get a muscular and sculpted fuel tank, split seat setup and dual-barrel exhaust. Nevertheless, it does get a new set of graphics that feature on the headlamp unit and on the fuel tank. TVS is offering the 2020 Apache RTR 200 4V in two paint schemes- Gloss Black with red highlights, Pearl White and Matte Blue. 

The 2020 TVS Apache RTR 200 4V also features an LCD instrument cluster that has Bluetooth connectivity as standard. It also features a radial tyre at the rear which is also fitted as standard. 

The new TVS Apache RTR 200 4V motorcycle comes with three ride modes, Sport, Urban, and Rain. The Sport Mode allows for maximum power and sharp acceleration while riding on the highway. The Urban Mode allows delivering optimum power and control for the city whereas Rain Mode comes with ABS tuned to deliver maximum response helps the rider gain better traction and control over the bike.
