Bosnian Tesla fan impatient for Cybertruck release builds a lookalike

5th September 2020
"rugged Ford Raptor F-150 into its smallest parts and then transform it into petrol-powered vehicle that resembles a Cybertruck."

A Bosnian fan of both Ford trucks and Elon Musk’s Tesla could not just sit on his hands waiting for the electric carmaker to release its Cybertruck, expected from late 2021. Instead he came up with his own version of the futuristic vehicle.

It took eight months for IT specialists and engineers at Igor Krezic’s Stark Solutions company to disassemble a rugged Ford Raptor F-150 into its smallest parts and then transform it into petrol-powered vehicle that resembles a Cybertruck.

The first drive through the streets of the southern town of Mostar drew a lot of attention, Mario Coric, the company manager, told Reuters.

Everybody was watching and half of them thought we made a tank, because people don’t know what the Cybertruck is. One girl even stopped and asked if this is the place where they are producing Tesla Cybertruck,” Coric said on Friday.

Krezic declined to speak to Reuters.

Though it may not look identical to Cybertruck’s functional prototype the pickup captures its spirit.

The owner wanted us to combine two opposite sides — Ford and Cyber — because he is a fan of both Tesla and Ford, so we merged two souls into one,” he said.

This one uses gasoline and Tesla uses electricity. We tried to copy as much as possible but our car is not the same size as the Cybertruck,” Coric added.

There was no immediate comment from Tesla and Ford.

Coric said Stark Solutions was now trying to register the pickup to be able to drive it on roads but they were encountering problems because sharp vehicle edges like those seen on the Cybertruck are banned in Bosnia.

Tesla plans to build its $1.1 billion Cybertruck factory near Austin, Texas, ending an intense competition with neighbouring Oklahoma, the carmaker’s chief executive Musk announced in July.

With a starting price of $39,000, the Cybertruck resembles an armoured vehicle and takes aim at the heart of Detroit automakers’ profitable truck business.

Apple, Google Ban Location Tracking In Coronavirus Contact Tracing Apps

4th May 2020
"Apple and Google have shared sample interface of their contact tracing system that aims to track potential COVID-19 positive cases."

Apple and Google have shared sample interface of their contact tracing system that aims to track potential COVID-19 positive cases.

Apple and Google have been working on a contact tracing tool since April to help identify potential cases of COVID-19. The two tech companies have now shared more information on the system including sample interface design for potential apps as well as restrictions on how it will be used.

The interface samples give an idea of how the automatic exposure notification will work. It shows how specific alerts would appear as well as how Apple and Google plan to ensure user privacy and consent. The two companies have also shared a library of reference code— an SDK for Android and an Xcode toolkit for iOS, which they believe will serve as “a starting gun” for app development by health agencies.

Apple and Google have also laid out rules to use the contact tracing applications. The public-sector partners would be expected to use the system only for COVID-19 response efforts and require opt-in consent before accessing the API or sharing a positive diagnosis. The apps will be restricted from using Location Services and cannot allow any form of targeted advertisement.

If the health agencies have existing apps with targeted advertising or location services, they will need to turn off those systems before they access the API.

The contact tracing system works through Bluetooth Low Energy signals to track people who have come in contact with a person diagnosed positively for the coronavirus.

Apple and Google also said Monday they will allow only one app per country to use the contact system, to avoid fragmentation and encourage wider adoption. The companies said they would, however, support countries that opt for a state or regional approach, and that U.S. states will be allowed to use the system.

Earlier, Apple and Google made a series of technical announcements regarding their contact tracing system underlining the use of encrypted keys to preserve the non-exposed user’s privacy. The companies have confirmed to discontinue the system as soon as the public health crisis is over.

Tesla 2Q deliveries rise over 1Q despite factory shutdown

2nd July 2020
" Tesla says it delivered more electric vehicles worldwide in the second quarter than it did in the first. The increase came even though coronavirus restrictions forced it to shut down its only U.S. factory for much of the period."

Tesla says it delivered more electric vehicles worldwide in the second quarter than it did in the first. The increase came even though coronavirus restrictions forced it to shut down its only U.S. factory for much of the period.

The company says it delivered 90,650 vehicles from April through June as it rolled out the new Model Y SUV in the U.S. and China. That’s a 2.5% increase over the first quarter’s 88,400. But it was a 4.8% drop from the second quarter of 2019, when Tesla delivered 95,200 vehicles.

Coronavirus restrictions adopted in the San Francisco Bay Area forced Tesla to close its only U.S. assembly plant in Fremont, California, for almost two months starting March 23. It didn’t reopen until May 11.

The Palo Alto, California, company said it delivered 10,600 of its older Models, the S sedan and X SUV. The newer Y small SUV and Model 3 smaller car accounted for the bulk of the sales at 80,050.

The sales performance beat Wall Street estimates of 72,000 for the second quarter, according to FactSet.

It came with a feverish push to crank out and sell more vehicles in the U.S., and it gives the company a shot at breaking even when second-quarter financial results are released.

The push came with numerous quality problems reported on Tesla owner forums and social media. Many Model Y buyers reported rejecting their SUVs due to mismatched paint and body panels that didn’t fit properly. Many others reported that their vehicles were flawless.

At the end of the second quarter, CEO Elon Musk told employees in an emailed note that prospects for the company breaking even for the period are tight, and he’s asked them to go all-out to make it happen.

In the message to Tesla’s roughly 48,000 workers, Musk wrote that it “really makes a difference for every car you build and deliver.”

In the first quarter, the company eked out a $16 million net profit, its third-straight profitable quarter.

At the opening bell, Tesla’s share price shot up 8.7% to $1,216.65.

While our main factory in Fremont was shut down for much of the quarter, we have successfully ramped production back to prior levels,” Tesla said in a statement Thursday.

The second-quarter numbers bring Tesla’s sales for the first half of the year to 185,850, behind the pace needed to meet Musk’s brash prediction of selling more than 500,000 cars for the year. That would be significantly higher than the company’s sales of 367,500 last year.

The sales figures came one day after Tesla’s market capitalization surpassed Toyota to become the world’s most valuable auto company.

Elon Musk Tweets Tesla Will Achieve Full Self-Driving Capabilities

19th August 2020
"Elon Musk had earlier claimed that he had a major program under work at Tesla about which he didn't share details."

Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk recently announced on Twitter to share a variety of updates on Tesla Autopilot and Full Self Driving (FSD). The Dojo Neural Net training centre. Since 2019 April Tesla has been working on a "DOJO", a supercomputer to train neural networks (NN). Elon Musk had earlier claimed that he had a major program under work at Tesla about which he didn't share details.

The mighty super training computer is now called Dojo. The aim behind Dojo is to take in vast amounts of data and train at a video level and do unsupervised training of massive amount of video data with the help of the Dojo program.

The dojo will be enabling faster Neural Network learning. The dojo is used to increase training speed and enable self-supervised learning. But then what is the issue with the existing Autopilot that the new update will be enhancing.

Tesla is developing a NN training computer called Dojo to process truly vast amounts of video data. It’s a beast! Please consider joining our AI or computer/chip teams if this sounds interesting.

When / what do you think will be the next big public release that shows a massive leap in Autopilot FSD? I feel like when Navigate on Autopilot came out that was a huge leap, will there be another one like that soon?

— Everyday Astronaut (@Erdayastronaut) August 14, 2020

Our main engineering locations are Palo Alto, Austin & Seattle, but working remotely is acceptable for exceptional candidates

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) August 15, 2020

Tesla will be releasing an improved Autopilot which will be a limited release in 2 months. Tesla had announced that they were doing a rewrite of the program. As we all know the current Autopilot/FSD is great. In fact, Musk claimed that he has been running an "alpha" version of the update on his personal vehicle.

Tesla has 10 billion km of real-world driving data. This brings to our common curiosities whether the regulatory authorities will find Tesla's autopilot safer for robotaxis to ply on roads.
