Chinese smartphone manufacturer has launched its second car as the tech giant ventures into the electric vehicle business. The company recently launched the Auto M5 plug-in hybrid SUV in China. 

The M5, Aito's first luxury smart electric SUV, is jointly developed by Huawei along with another Chinese brand Seres, which his part of Chongqing Sokon. The SUV also comes with Chinese tech giant’s HarmonyOS operating system.

The Huawei Aito M5 SUV comes with a wheelbase of 2.88 meters and a length of 4.77 meters.From the front, the SUV stands out for the large and ragged headlights, large wheel arches for the alloy wheels and the rear light clusters that occupy the entire tailgate.

The M5 also has a very spacious interior. It is dominated by a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system which comes with a Huawei operating system. The interface on the display runs on the Harmony OS system, with the option of split-screen, 3D face recognition, unlocking the car using an NFC chip in a Huawei watch or automatic Huawei ID login.

Huawei Aito M5 also has a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 125 hp, although it only works as a generator to recharge the 40 kWh battery pack.

The company claims that the SUV can return an overall range of 1,195 kilometres. It also claims that the SUV can accelerate from zero to 100 kmph in just 4.4 seconds.

AITO M5’s Intelligent Clean Air System (ICAS) automatically detects the ambient air quality and works with a proprietary odor control system to ensure the cabin air is always fresh.

Three versions of the AITO M5 have been pre-sold at prices ranging from 25,000 yuan to 32,000 yuan.

Huawei during their Annual Developer Conference announced their new open-source operating software Harmony OS.

Richard Yu in the Huawei Developer Conference told, HarmonyOS is “the first microkernel-based distributed OS for all scenarios. The new OS supports smartphones, smart speakers, computers, smartwatches, wireless earbuds, cars, and tablets. Yu also added, the platform supports RAM sizes ranging from kilobytes to gigabytes but no root access support.

Talking about the apps Yu said, the platform will eventually support HTML5, Linux, and, Android apps will also be compatible. The ARK Compiler used in HarmonyOS app development will also support Kotlin, Java, Javascript, C, and C++.

Debuting in Smart Screens first, the first product to house the OS is the Honor Vision Smart Screen. Harmony OS will slowly be optimized and gradually integrated over variety of other devices.

 

 

Facing immense difficulties in the transformation from device maker to service provider, Huawei Technologies is closing its cloud and AI business group only after 14 months of its operation. 

As announced on April 2 in an internal memo group activities will be split into two units.
Server and hardware storage operations will be assumed by Huawei's internet products and solutions department.
Zhang Pingan is taking over from Richard Yu who was appointed president of the cloud and AI business group. 
This sudden change is an obvious reflection of Huawei's struggle to transform from a hardware supplier to a services provider. 
The company started its cloud computing strategy around 2010 and expanded into the cloud services market in 2017.
It became China's second-largest cloud services provider in late 2020.
The pandemic had brought forward one to three years of full adoption of cloud services by global enterprises, and that revenue generated by Huawei Cloud grew 168% year on year.
They aimed to build world-leading information and communication technology infrastructure, but the cloud services were yet to reach an advanced stage. 
Their cloud services were lagging behind the rival companies due to their late entry into the particular market.
