Huawei's First Car Will Be a Luxury Sedan Powered by Harmony OS
"The first Huawei EV will be revealed on April 17"
The first Huawei EV will be revealed on April 17, according to a teaser posted by the company on Chinese social network Weibo, and although no official information has been released, a few tidbits have already made their way online via unofficial channels.
First and foremost, the car was developed in collaboration with Arcfox, a subsidiary of Chinese automaker BAIC. It is possible that the car will be released under the Huawei brand, but this is highly unlikely.
The vehicle will be known as the Arcfox Alpha S HBT, where HBT stands for Huawei Bluepark Together and will be entirely reliant on software and services developed by the Chinese tech firm.
All, for example, will run on Harmony OS, Huawei's powerful Android-based operating system that began as a competitor to Google's mobile operating system but has since expanded to include more types of products than just smartphones.
Huawei's first car will feature level 3 autonomous driving as well as 5G networking, which isn't shocking considering Huawei's role as a pioneer in the adoption of this new standard.
According to the teaser released this week, the car will be a sedan, and company officials claim it will be a luxurious model that runs entirely on electric power.
It remains to be seen whether Huawei's automotive ambitions extend beyond the Chinese market, but given the sanctions the company is facing in the United States, an international launch of the car may be delayed.
Full details, however, will be released next week as part of the car's official unveiling in China.
