If the slides below are to be believed, Nvidia's upcoming RTX 3000-series 'Ampere' graphics cards could be more than twice as fast in some games than the RTX 2000-series, with the performance of the RTX 3090 smashing the RTX 2080 Ti - it's current 2000-series flagship.

show that in Control, the new Ampere card was more than twice as fast as the RTX 2080 Ti with RTX features such as DLSS turned on at 4K resolution. It was exactly twice as rapid in Minecraft RTX and somewhere around 1.8x as fast in Wolfenstein: Youngblood.

The next slide to be supposedly leaked suggests the RTX 3090 could have a massive 24GB memory, 5,2848 cores, and memory bandwidth of 19.5Gbps. Various rumors have pointed at prices around $1400, but many in the community have suggested that's too low for the specification.

Nvidia is set to hold an online event on Tuesday where it is widely expected to reveal its 3000-series Ampere GPUs.

The Japanese manufacturer of Pokemon and Super Mario games, as well as the Switch console, reported Thursday a profit of 106.4 billion yen ($1 billion) in the fiscal first quarter, up from 16.6 billion yen last year.

Quarterly sales at Kyoto-based Nintendo jumped, doubling to 358 billion yen ($3.4 billion) on-year.

Especially popular was “Animal Crossing: New Horizons,” of which 10 million were sold during the three months, reaching cumulative sales of 20 million. Also popular was “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.”

Nintendo Switch sales, both of the handheld machines and software games, were zooming amid the pandemic.

Nintendo said various online games in its lineup, including those for mobile devices, were also drawing more people.

Although the coronavirus outbreak has swamped economies in the worst contraction since the Great Depression, some businesses like Nintendo are thriving.

Japanese and electronic and entertainment conglomerate Sony Corp., which also has a game unit with its PlayStation series, also reported positive results earlier this week.

Other technology companies, such as Apple and Facebook, are reaping the benefits of people turning in droves to online activities.

Nintendo acknowledged COVID-19 had caused a shortage in parts to produce the Switch, but such problems were being gradually fixed.

Facebook and Microsoft's grievances over how their gaming apps appear on Apple's App Store may feed into an EU investigation into the iPhone maker's business as EU antitrust regulators said such concerns are on their radar.

The European Commission in June opened four probes into Apple, three of which are into its App Store and its restrictive rules, including requirements that app developers use its own in-app purchasing system.

US social media giant Facebook and Microsoft are the latest companies to voice concerns about the rules, which have drawn criticism from app developers who say they create an uneven playing field to compete with the iPhone maker.

Asked about Facebook and Microsoft's issues with Apple, Commission spokeswoman Arianna Podesta said in a statement: "The Commission is aware of these concerns regarding Apple's App Store rules."

She did not provide details.

Apple dismissed criticism of its App Store rules, saying that all apps are reviewed against the same set of guidelines whose aim is to protect customers and provide a fair and level playing field for developers.

Facebook last week said its gaming app was only available on Apple's App Store as a streaming service and that users will not be able to play games.

Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg said the company had to remove gameplay functionality entirely to secure Apple's approval of its Facebook Gaming app.

Microsoft, which has a game-streaming service called Project xCloud said: "Apple stands alone as the only general-purpose platform to deny consumers from cloud gaming and game subscription services like Xbox Game Pass."

"It consistently treats gaming apps differently, applying more lenient rules to non-gaming apps even when they include interactive content," it added in an emailed statement.

Screen resolution: Gaming at high resolution will give you an edge over your opponent. 1080p is perfect as going beyond it will barely give you any advantage as human eyes will hardly notice a difference between 1080p and higher resolution. 

Type of screen: Having a phone with AMOLED display will enhance your gaming experience as it provides better contrast and vibrant colors compared to an LCD panel. Also, AMOLED panels are more efficient than LCD panels. Having AMOLED will also give you a better content consumption experience

Screen refresh rate: Higher refresh rate screens will provide smoother gameplay. The normal phones have a refresh rate of 60Hz. Currently, 90Hz has become common among devices and will smoothen your gameplay by a lot. But some devices even offer 120Hz which will enhance your experience even more. 

Cooling system

Gaming is a very intense and resource-heavy task for a device, which in return produces a lot of heat. Heat and electronics don't go well together. Also, a gamer holds the device for an extended period of time. So having a device that has a better cooling solution will help in performance and will also help the person holding the device. Many devices offer some sort of liquid cooling and a small number of devices even offer a fan!

Battery + Fast charging

Having a device with a large battery will significantly extend your gaming session. A device with a 5000 mAh battery is more than enough for a gaming session of about 4 hours+. As much as we would all love to have the latest and greatest, high-performance flagship smartphone, the lofty price tags of many of those devices put them out of reach for many. Mainstream devices are significantly more affordable, but they don’t typically offer quite as much overall performance, at least according to many popular benchmarks. Although measured performance is quantifiably not as strong, the user experience for the vast majority of everyday use cases can still be very good on a mainstream device. Graphically intense mobile gaming, however, is often an area where those same mainstream devices clearly lag behind their more powerful counterparts. News out of Qualcomm today, however, should give upcoming, more mainstream mobile device a significant boost in performance.

A few hours ago, Qualcomm announced the new Snapdragon 732G Mobile Platform. As its name suggests, the 732G is an iteration on the existing Snapdragon 730G. The new Snapdragon 732G, however, has been further optimized to offer more CPU, GPU, and AI computation performance.

“Snapdragon 732G will deliver a powerful gaming experience, sophisticated on-device AI, and superior performance,” said Kedar Kondap, vice president of product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “We’re excited to work with POCO on the new POCO smartphone powered by the enhanced Snapdragon 732G globally.”

The Snapdragon 732G is manufactured using an 8nm process and features Qualcomm’s 4th generation Qualcomm AI Engine, along with higher-clocked CPU and GPU cores. The Qualcomm Kryo 470 CPU in the chip can scale up to frequencies as high as 2.3GHz, versus 2.2GHz in the 730G. And the integrated Qualcomm Adreno 618 GPU offers 15% higher performance in graphics rendering workloads.

The first partner out of the gate that will be leveraging the Snapdragon 732G Mobile Platform is POCO. "We are extremely excited about the upcoming POCO smartphone and our collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies that allowed us to create the first device on the market with the latest Snapdragon 732G Mobile Platform,” said Sam Jiang, head of products, POCO Global. “We believe the device will set a new benchmark in the mid-range category, completely redefining the relationship between a phone’s price and its capabilities."

The branding of the actual POCO device that will be powered by the Snapdragon 732G wasn’t disclosed, but it will likely be the POCO X3 NFC. A few hours after the Qualcomm announcement hit, POCO’s twitter account posted the image above. The full scoop on the POCO X3 NFC will be revealed on September 7.
