OnePlus smartphones will soon be available with a dedicated theme store, as the OxygenOS 12 update allows the user to configure their devices more personally.

The smartphone company announced the news in an official forum thread, which also revealed a few details about the next OnePlus Open Ears Forum (OEF), which is scheduled for May 18.

OnePlus will hold a discussion about the updates of OxygenOS 12, with a panel of 15 users and other OnePlus community members.

OnePlus is bringing back the online OEF with a brand new topic : Theme Store.

Theme Store is not a new concept for Android devices, in fact it is extremely common in Chinese Androids like MIUI and EMUI.

Samsung has its own Theme Store available on Galaxy line of Android devices.

OnePlus’ Theme Store will be available in the next OxygenOS update, which is somewhat similar to Samsung Themes.

There aren’t many confirmed specs available about OxygeOS 12, but we are sure to learn about them on OnePlus Open Ears Forum on May 18.

March was full of smartphone launches from Samsung, Huawei, Realme and Xiaomi, OnePlus will take the domain of April with the new OnePlus 8 series. The new piece of information comes straight from the popular Indian leakster, Ishan Agarwal. According to him, the OnePlus 8 Pro has a 48MP primary camera which is Sony’s IMX689 sensor. 

The OnePlus 8 Pro will have a 48-megapixel IMX689 primary sensor with f/1.78 lens. The secondary will be a 48-megapixel IMX586 ultra-wide camera with f/2.2 aperture and 120-degree field-of-view (FOV). The third will be an 8-megapixel f/2.44 telephoto camera with 3X optical zoom and 30X digital zoom.

The OnePlus 8 Pro will have a 5-megapixel colour filter. The phone is also expected to come with an always-on HDR10+ display with 1400nits of brightness, according to a tweet by the Ishan Agarwal.

The OnePlus 8, the phone will have a hole-punch design for the selfie shooter, like the Pro variant. There will be three colour variants, as tweeted by Ishan Agarwal, which are called Glacial Green, Interstellar Glow, and Onyx Black.

The triple camera setup on the OnePlus 8 will include a 48-megapixel camera with f/1.8 aperture, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. He also shared a render of the OnePlus 8 showing the triple camera setup on the back, as well as the hole-punch design for the front.

OnePlus is expected to launch three devices this time which include the OnePlus 8, OnePlus 8 Pro, and the OnePlus 8 Lite. The company may launch the OnePlus 8 and it is Pro variant on April 15 while the Lite variant may come later this year.

Earlier this month we saw the first renders of the upcoming OnePlus 9 Pro. They show that the company has chosen a camera hump design similar to the 8T and Nord N-series rather than a continuation of the 7 Pro and 8 Pro design.

 

There are two prominent camera modules plus two smaller lenses. A wide, ultra-wide, and tele cameras are a given, but the function of the fourth cam is unknown – we doubt the controversial IR camera will make a return. But no periscope camera either, by the looks of it. Anyway, LetsGoDigital and Concept Creator worked together to create new, more life-like renders of the device for everyone to enjoy. Notice the curved sides of the screen – the curvature looks more pronounced than the one on the OnePlus 8 Pro, here’s a 3D model for comparison:

The screen itself will stick to a 6.7” diagonal, which is the norm for recent Pro models. We’ve heard rumors that the refresh rate will be nudged up to 144 Hz and that the Pro will feature beefed-up stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support. By the way, the OnePlus 9 renders show a flat-screen.

The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro are expected earlier than usual with a mid-March launch. This could be a response to the earlier Galaxy S21 launch or just intended to give the 9-series more time before the inevitable 9T refresh shows up later in the year.

The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro will be powered by the new Snapdragon 875 chipset, which will be made official later this week. We’ve already seen both phones running Geekbench with 8 GB of RAM, so a memory upgrade is not in the cards. The charging system will move up to 65W, however, following Warp Charge 65’s debut with the 8T.

The duo will launch in the US, with T-Mobile getting both models while Verizon will once again opt for a mmWave version of the non-Pro model alone. But all of that is a few months away. For now, enjoy this short video of a virtual OnePlus 9 Pro
