A team led by NADA Chairman Dhruba Thapa met with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to address the prohibition on private car imports in Nepal.

The meeting and discussion were also attended by Vice President Sunil Rijal, Treasurer Milan Babu Malla, and Central Working Committee members Akash Golchha and Kapil Shivakoti.

During the discussion, Prime Minister Deuba raised the possibility of easing the prohibition on private car imports. He also advised that automakers decrease their rising trade gap by establishing an electric car assembly unit in Nepal.

During the meeting and discussions, Chairman Thapa stated that, among the hundreds of items brought into the nation, only vehicles such as automobiles, jeeps, and vans produce more than twice the revenue compared to imports.

He also stated that while autos contributed relatively little to the country's expanding trade and balance of payments imbalance, they contributed significantly to income.

Chairman Thapa has requested that the prohibition be lifted before the forthcoming NADA Auto Expo, which would be held between August 23 and 28, 2022. (Bhadra 7- Bhadra 12, 2079 B.S.).

The NADA Auto Show's 15th edition will feature four-wheelers, two-wheelers, garage and auto components, commercial vehicles, and electric two-wheelers.

According to a statement released today, the Nepal Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) strongly opposes the decision of the government to require taxpayers to pay their tax obligations by Baisakh 25, 2078 B.S. (May 8, 2021).

The Inland Revenue Department, which issued a public notice requesting entrepreneurs and businessmen to file their tax returns and tax payments as soon as possible, has received strong opposition from the business community, including the automobile industry.

Because the government has imposed a curfew in the capital for the general public's safety in light of the growing number of new variants, entrepreneurs are unable to submit tax and other duties to the Inland Revenue Department.

A similar request has originated from the Nepal Automobile Dealers Association for dealers to supply oxygen cylinders to the oxygen manufacturing industries on their premises.
