5-Door Suzuki Jimny Turbo to Debut Next Year in India

18th May 2021
"The fourth-generation three-door Jimny, which debuted in Europe in 2018, is still in high demand"

The fourth-generation three-door Jimny, which debuted in Europe in 2018, is still in high demand.

So much so that Suzuki began producing the three-door Jimny exclusively for exports in India. Now, the automaker is developing a five-door model specifically for the Indian market, which could debut in 2022. The Jimny 5-door will be based on the Jimny Sierra variant, which was shown at the Auto Expo 2020 in India. The Jimny 5-door will have a length of 3,850mm, a width of 1,645mm, and a height of 1,730mm. It will have a wheelbase of 2,550mm, which is 300mm longer than the 3-door Jimny's wheelbase of 2,250mm and overall length of 3,550mm.

The Jimny 5-door will be powered by a 1.5-liter K15B petrol engine producing around 102hp. The 1.5-liter engine will be similar to the one in the Vitara Brezza, S-Cross, Ciaz, and the Ertiga in our market, but tuned to give a bit more torque. A five-speed manual transmission and a four-speed torque converter automatic transmission will be available. Internationally, there are also rumors that the revised Jimny will get a turbocharged mild-hybrid powertrain.

The Jimny 5 door was supposed to make its global debut at this year's Tokyo Motor Show in October 2021, but the event has been cancelled due to the current global pandemic, so the Jimny 5 door will be officially announced only next year.
