Galaxy S10 fingerprint sensor fooled by a 3D printer

6th April 2019
"“I can do this entire process in less than 3 minutes and remotely start the 3d print so that it’s done by the time I get to it” - darkshark"

In recent years, phone manufacturers have been trying to implement newer more advanced security for their devices- fingerprint readers, 3d face mapping. But there were myriad ways to fool such sensors. One user found a major security flaw in the in-display fingerprint sensor of his Samsung Galaxy S10 with a 3D printed version of his fingerprint.

Check out this video of him (username: darkshark) fooling his Galaxy S10’s security to gain full access.

I attempted to fool the new Samsung Galaxy S10's ultrasonic fingerprint scanner by using 3d printing. I succeeded.

The Galaxy S10’s fingerprint sensor doesn’t rely on a capacitive fingerprint scanner and instead uses an ultrasonic sensor that is supposedly more difficult to fool. ‘Darkshark’ pointed out that it didn’t take much to spoof his own fingerprint. As the use of online banking and ePayments increases, it is a major concern along with a MAJOR breach of privacy. Fingerprints are not as secure as you think - they can be easily bypassed, even on the most advanced of phones.

If you care about your data and/or use eBanking apps, we strongly urge you to use a password protected lock screen, which is much more difficult to crack.
