Mahindra is working on a 5-door Thar model, which has recently received official approval in India. The SUV with the Bolero body will be tested soon by the company. It will most likely have a longer wheelbase and more cabin space.

The upcoming 5-door Thar will be powered by a new 180 mStallion Pro turbo petrol engine, which will be significantly more powerful than the current model's petrol engine, which produces 150 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. The new SUV will have a more powerful 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which currently produces 130bhp and 320Nm.

The new 5-door Thar variant will be slightly more expensive than the regular model and will compete with the upcoming 5-door Suzuki Jimny.
