OnePlus Concept One, Phone with Invisible Camera

We have seen phones with Square, circular, vertical, horizontal camera modules till now. An invisible camera module anyone?                             

OnePlus recently during CES 2020 unveiled their concept phone, the OnePlus Concept One which they developed in partnership with McLaren, the British sports car manufacturer. OnePlus claims they have been working for 18 months developing this concept phone.

The OnePlus Concept One phone uses the iconic Papaya Orange colored leather from McLaren for aesthetics and premium look with aluminum alloy framing coated with pure gold and electrochromic glass to make the rare cameras invisible.

So what is electrochromic glass?

It is a special type of glass whose light transmission properties are altered when a voltage is applied. When voltage is applied the glass changes from transparent to translucent and vice versa. McLaren and other luxury cars used this glass in their sunroof to control how much light can shine through whereas OnePlus is using it to disappear camera when not in use.

But Why? OnePlus says the smartphone industry will eventually figure out under-screen camera technology, eliminating visible cameras on the front of a device so they developed OnePlus Concept One to complement such under-screen camera technology.

Another thing this does is to apply the Neutral Density Filter Effect to the cameras. As electrochromic glass can be used to control the transparency, so the intensity of all wavelengths of light in the image can be reduced without affecting the hue. As a result, you’ll be able to lower the ISO and increase the shutter speed more than you would normally be able to without an ND filter using the pro mode in the camera app.
