Samsung announced their new flagship Exynos 990 SoC, Exynos 5123 5G modem, and LPDDR4X memory

At the Samsung Tech Day event held yesterday, Samsung unveiled their new Exynos 990 SoC, Exynos 5123 5G modem, and LPDDR4X memory with the aim of improving various aspects in mobile devices.

The Exynos 990 SoC is an octa-core processor that will debut as the premium chipset and will be used in flagship phone. This processor will likely have 2x Exynos M5 Custom Cores, 2x Cortex-A76, and 4x Cortex-A55 and is built on its latest EUV 7nm process for its future flagship phones. This processor is expected to increase the up to 20% from its predecessor. Not only that, inside the new processor, assisting in the graphics is their new Mali G77 GPU, a dual-core NPU, and a new ISP unit. Samsung says the Mali-G77 GPU will support 120 Hz refresh rate displays and improve graphics performance or power efficiency by up to 20%.

 

 

Samsung also announced their new 5G modem chip called Exynos Modem 5123 along side the new SoC. Talking about the feature of the new modem chip, max 5.1 Gbps downlink in sub-6GHz 5G mode, max 7.35 Gbps in mmWave 5G mode, and up to 3.0 Gbps in 4G LTE.

Lastly Samsung announced their latest 12GB DRAM memory chips. This memory is based on eUFS 3.0 NAND technology making it more efficient. This memory chip will allow intensive activities such as 4K video recording and heavy multi-tasking.

All announced chips are already underway mass production says Samsung with the Exynos 990 and Exynos Modem 5123 scheduled to start before the end of the year. We will likely see these chipset in Samsung’s upcoming flagship phone the Galaxy S11.
