The iOS 16 improves iPhone with new personalization features, deeper intelligence, and more seamless ways to communicate and share.
Apple recently unveiled iOS 16, which includes the largest update to the Lock Screen in history, as well as new sharing, communication, and intelligence features that will revolutionize the way people interact with their iPhones.
iOS 16 offers iCloud Shared Photo Library, which allows users to easily share a collection of photos with family, improvements to Messages and Mail that make it easier to keep in touch, and dramatic improvements to Live Text and Visual Look Up.
Intelligence
You can now pause a video on any frame with text to perform common actions such as copy, translate, look up, share, and more.
It's now even easier to dial numbers, visit websites, convert currencies, translate languages, and do other things in photos, videos, and Cameras.
Lock Screen
You can make your iPhone uniquely yours by customizing the Lock Screen. Moreover, you can display favorite photos, change font styles, and display a set of widgets for quick access to information.
You can now easily switch between different Lock Screens, each with its own backdrop and style. For ideas, browse a gallery of wallpapers with suggested photos and themed collections.
Also, Widgets on the Lock Screen allow you to quickly view data from your favorite apps such as the weather, calendar events, date, time zones, alarms, battery level, Activity ring progress, and more.
You can also view Lock Screen notifications in an expanded list view, stacked view, or hidden view. In addition, notifications appear at the bottom of the screen, keeping them out of the way.
Lastly, Live Activities make it easier to stay up to date on what's going on in real-time, right from your Lock Screen. So you can check a game's score or track the progress of your food delivery without having to unlock your device.
Focus
A new streamlined Focus setup allows you to choose which apps and people you want to receive notifications from by allowing or silencing them.
You can Connect your Lock Screen to your Focus so that the look and feel of your iPhone correspond to how you intend to use it at the time.
You can also switch from your Personal Focus to your Work Focus with a swipe, with widgets displaying upcoming meetings and to-do lists.
Photos
You can select what to include based on a start date or the people in the photographs.
Once the shared library is set up, you can share photos directly from Camera, choose to share automatically when other members of the shared library are nearby, and get smart suggestions for adding photos to the shared library in For You.
In the shared library, you can also add, edit, and delete photos. Favorites, captions, and keywords all sync, so if one person organizes the collection, it benefits everyone.
Messages
You can now edit a message you just sent or unsubscribe from a recent message entirely. You can also mark a message as unread if you can't respond right away and want to return to it later.
You can now watch the latest episode of your favorite show or listen to a new song while chatting about it in Messages with your friends. Furthermore, shared playback controls ensure that you are always in sync.
To begin collaborating right away, share notes, presentations, reminders, Safari Tab Groups, and more in Messages. View updates on shared projects in the thread and easily contact your collaborators directly from the app you're using.
Health App
Apple plans to introduce an updated version of the Health app that will expand sleep tracking functionality and medicine management.
Apple is developing a medicine management tool that will let users scan their pill bottles into the app, but the initial version of the feature is unlikely to include all of the planned functionality.
The Health app is also set to gain new women's health features.
Wallet Adds Apple Pay Later, Order Tracking, and Other Features
Apple Pay Later provides a seamless and secure way to split the cost of an Apple Pay purchase into four equal payments spread over six weeks, with zero interest and no fees of any kind.
Built into Apple Wallet and designed with users’ financial health in mind, Apple Pay Later makes it easy to view, track, and repay Apple Pay Later payments within Wallet.
Users can apply for Apple Pay Later when they are checking out with Apple Pay, or in Wallet. Apple Pay Later is available everywhere Apple Pay is accepted online or in-app, using the Mastercard network.
Additionally, with Apple Pay Order Tracking, users can receive detailed receipts and order tracking information in Wallet for Apple Pay purchases with participating merchants.
The Next Generation of CarPlay
CarPlay has completely altered how people interact with their automobiles, and the next generation of CarPlay goes much farther by fully integrating with the hardware of a vehicle.
CarPlay will be able to supply material for various screens within the vehicle, resulting in a unified and consistent experience.
Deeper integration with the vehicle will allow users to manage the radio or modify the climate directly through CarPlay, and CarPlay will fluidly render the speed, fuel level, temperature, and other information on the instrument cluster using vehicle data.
Users will be able to tailor their driving experience by selecting multiple gauge cluster designs, and with the addition of widget compatibility, users will be able to get at-a-glance information like Weather and Music right on their car's dashboard.
