Five major car companies reach an agreement on Joint Development of Technical Specifications for Next-generation Vehicle Communications Devices

27th April 2021
"Communications systems to be standardized for early provision of safer and more convenient connected services"

Suzuki Motor Corporation (Suzuki), Subaru Corporation (Subaru), Daihatsu Motor Co. Ltd. (Daihatsu), Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota), and Mazda Motor Corporation (Mazda) reached an agreement to jointly develop technical specifications for next-generation vehicle communications devices and to promote the common use of communications systems, by using connected services to link automobiles and society with the aim of creating new appeal, value, and services, to be standardized for early provision of safer and more convenient connected services.

Within the field of CASE (connected, autonomous/automated, shared, and electric), which is said to be bringing about major transformations in the automotive industry, rapid advances are being made in the connected domain, in relation to the communications and data aspects of technology and business including cloud services, IoT, big data, and AI.

Individual automobile manufacturers are independently developing vehicle communications devices, and even in cases where the same connected services such as remote operation functions are provided, each company is adopting a different approach in proceeding with development and deploying relevant resources.

In response to these circumstances, the companies can provide safer and more convenient connected services to customers as early as possible, by positioning the development of vehicle communications devices, which are basic functions of the connected car, as a cooperative domain; positioning the development of applications and services as an in-house domain, and achieving greater efficiency and accelerating the development of vehicle communications devices.

Each company can focus more on the development of applications and services on this common infrastructure through these steps.

At this time, Suzuki, Subaru, Daihatsu, and Mazda, while incorporating their own technologies into the base vehicle communications technologies developed by Toyota, will together build systems for next-generation connected cars with common connection specifications from vehicles to networks and the vehicle communications device center.

As a result, by stabilizing the communication quality between vehicles and vehicle communications device center further, it will be possible to provide more convenient connected services to customers, such as clearer calls between customers and operators and faster connection speeds.

At the same time, it will be possible to reduce the development burdens of each participating company and simplify system operation and version upgrades that include additional new functions, thereby optimizing resources such as facilities and personnel.

Toyota has registered a trademark for the bZ Series in India

26th April 2021
"Toyota has applied for the bZ trademark in India. According to Toyota, the ‘bZ' nomenclature stands for “beyond zero,” or cars that are more than “just zero-emission”"

Toyota has applied for the bZ trademark in India. According to Toyota, the ‘bZ' nomenclature stands for “beyond zero,” or cars that are more than “just zero-emission.”

The company has applied to trademark eleven names in India: BZ, BZ1, BZ1X, BZ2, BZ2X, BZ3, BZ3X, BZ4, BZ4X, BZ5, and BZ5X. The first vehicle in this series, known as the BZ4X All-Electric SUV Concept, was unveiled earlier this week.

The BZ4X electric SUV is based on Toyota's e-TNGA platform and was developed in collaboration with Subaru. The bZ4X concept resembles a Toyota RAV4, but with a longer wheelbase and more angular styling.

The new front is part of Toyota's "hammerhead" design, which will be carried over to other Toyota vehicles.

The sides have black wheel arch trim, and the roof has a contrasting color. The back follows suit, with a full-width LED light bar and side-hugging tail lights.

The cabin, which appears to be nearing completion, has been designed primarily to provide the driver with a "sense of direct connection to the road and to important information." A yoke steering wheel is also included, which is said to improve visibility. Toyota has placed forward-facing cameras for driver assistance features beneath the digital gauge cluster, which is set back far from the steering wheel for better visibility.

The Toyota bZ4X is also equipped with a sophisticated steer-by-wire system. The center console, which has a rotary shifter in the middle and storage underneath with two USB-C ports, has a wide touchscreen that extends up from it. It will also include a solar recharging system, as well as a regenerating system, to extend the SUV's range.

Suzuki Hayabusa 2021 is now available in India for INR16.4 Lakh

27th April 2021
"The Suzuki Hayabusa 2021 has been launched in India at a price of INR 16.4 lakh"

The Suzuki Hayabusa 2021 has been launched in India at a price of INR 16.4 lakh. For the first time in 13 years, the all-new Hayabusa is a third-generation model that has undergone a full model change. It has further evolved the unique styling design with outstanding aerodynamic performance and superior riding performance under the product concept "Ultimate Sport," inherited from the very first generation.

The new and iconic styling design, known as the Hayabusa, has a flowing, forward-slanting, and aggressive silhouette defined by bold surfaces with sharp and edgy lines.

The body is two-toned, with different colors used for the main body and small parts around the front air intakes, side cowlings, and rear section. Suzuki motorcycles are the first to use turn signals with built-in position lights located on the outer edges of the air intakes.

The new Hayabusa retains the 1340cc four-cylinder engine capacity, but most of the internals have been changed aside from the size and engine cases. Among other things, the engine receives lighter new pistons, new connecting rods, and reworked fuel injectors. As a result of these modifications, the peregrine falcon now has 190 hp and a peak torque of 150 Nm.

Suzuki claims that the torque delivery has been improved, and the company's website in the United States claims that this results in the "quickest Hayabusa ever." As before, the engine is paired with a six-speed transmission. The motorcycle's total weight has been measured at 264kg (kerb), with a claimed fuel economy of 14.9kmpl.

This bike, on the other hand, retains the same (and proven) twin-spar aluminum frame as the previous model. The dimensions are also very similar, including a 1480mm wheelbase. The seat height is 800mm, and the ground clearance is 120mm, both of which are slightly lower than on the old bike.

Suzuki has reworked the Showa suspension's internals for this update, and the bike now rides on Bridgestone's impressive Battlax S22 tires. The most significant and much-needed change is that the Hayabusa now uses Brembo's acclaimed Stylema calipers upfront.

Ten levels of traction control, ten levels of anti-wheelie control, three levels of engine brake control, three power modes, launch control, cruise control, cornering ABS, and hill hold control are available on the 2021 model.
