COVID-19 and it’s consequence of Lockdown has been a curse to many of the businesses. Our Team took interviews with various people belonging to all small, medium and large businesses. Some people say that their business has been adversely affected, while some state that it is in loss, however they would revive from it soon.
Interview with Ummeed Shrestha, Director of Kuzu Nepal Pvt. Ltd.
What is the post COVID situation of automobile sectors in Nepal?
The impact of the COVID-19 outbreak is being felt by all businesses around the world and automobile sector is no different. Post pandemic plight in terms of sales and survival of automobile dealers in Nepal is going to be excessively challenging. Consequent delays in consignment might impact the market at multiple levels from postponed new car model launches, shattered supply chains, tightening cash flow to strained working capital. Fewer cars will be exchanging hands as hundreds of thousands of people are facing financial uncertainty. Almost everyone has been adversely effected and buying a new car is the last thing on their mind. Even people who aren’t experiencing financial difficulties are being cautious and are only spending money on essential needs as they aren’t sure when the pandemic will end.
How are you planning to run the showroom after the lockdown is over and what are the safety protocols?
Vehicles are one of the most valued purchase, so people want to visit the showroom to experience it but Covid-19 and the ensuing lockdown has made walk-ins come to a halt. Leading online car sales portals are experiencing significant increase in visitors and time being spent by them on site during this lockdown. This shows that potential customers are quite active and have lot of time in hands to do their research for their future purchases, which is a big opportunity when we don’t have customers walking in. Therefore, we are taking online booking and encouraging online interactions by helping customers finalize on their future purchase.
Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our employees and clients is our utmost priority. Sanitization, mandatory mask for everyone present or visiting our showroom, monitoring health of all employees, placing hand sanitizers at every touch point, routine cleaning of test-drive cars, focusing on maintaining social distancing are few of the safety protocols we have been following.
Further, to ensure safety and convenience of customers, new cars can be delivered at their doorstep after being disinfected. Staff members in charge for delivery will adhere to safety measures.
