Is rust taking over your car? Car is important to us and we make sure to take care of it but sometimes problems like rusting give us a headache.

Fortunately, there’s something you can use to remove rust from metal without damaging paint:

White vinegar

For more stubborn rust, try using white vinegar. The acetic acid in this common household product is acidic enough to dissolve rust.

White vinegar

To remove the rust of your car put the white vinegar in a spray bottle and completely saturate the rusty areas of the car. Then using a pad, scrub the vinegar into the rust stains. Then spray more vinegar on the area. Wait 30 minutes then wipe the area and see the magic!

Baking Soda

Baking soda is great for cleaning especially rust. Using baking soda and water creates a thick paste that is easily spread over the metal as a rust cleaner.

Give it some time to set and then scrub it off. Use a toothbrush to scrub the paste off and then wash it with water.

Salt and Lemon Juice

Lemon and salt are other solutions to help remove rust from metal items. The lemon juice has citric acid, which helps to wear away the rust stains.

All you need to do is sprinkle some coarse salt onto the rust, then add lemon juice. Don’t let it sit too long, or it might cause damage. Wipe off the juice and rinse.

Also, try mixing lemon juice with a little vinegar for an extra-strong solution. Not only will you be rust-free, but whatever you are cleaning will smell like citrus!

Coke and soft drinks:

Alternatively, sometimes you can also try a coca-cola. Cola and other soft drinks contain high levels of phosphoric acid (a common ingredient in store-bought rust removal products) and can be used for rusted nuts and bolts or even corroded battery terminals.

However, it can be quite a challenge to clean up since it is so sticky, so you may want to try a different method first.

Tips to Keep Your Bike Free From Rust

3rd December 2021
"When a metal is exposed to oxygen and moisture, a natural process called corrosion occurs that converts the metal to rust."

When a metal is exposed to oxygen and moisture, a natural process called corrosion occurs that converts the metal to rust.

The metal parts of the motorcycles also rust if it’s not taken care of properly.

In this article we have a few methods of preventing your motorcycle from rusting:

Cover:

We usually don’t have a habit or let’s say we don’t have time for covering our bike. But do you know how important is it to cover your bike?

Covering the motorcycle means protecting it from rain, dust, and different particles to protect it from rusting.

Cover

You should always park your motorcycle in sheltered areas such as a covered lot or garage. Also, use a motorcycle cover if you don't have access to a garage.

Moreover, if you have to park out in the open, it is very important for you to invest in a motorcycle cover to protect your bike from rain, frost, and dew.

Anti-Corrosion Products:

The first and foremost thing you need to do is remove any developing rust spots as soon as possible.

You need to repair affected areas damaged by rust to prevent them from rusting again.

Anti-corrosion

Moreover, to prevent your motorcycle coat all metal parts and surfaces with an anti-corrosion product or corrosion protectant from time to time.

Wash and Wax:

Remember, the more you wash your motorcycle with a quality bike wash, the better protected it is against rust.

Wash

Always, wash your motorcycle to remove chemicals that can accelerate the corrosion process from time to time and apply a coat or two of wax to all painted parts such as the fuel tank, fenders, and side covers because moisture will work its way down into any small scratches or pore in the paintwork, but a couple of layers of wax repel that moisture.

Ways to Stop Your Mountain Bike/Bicycle From Rusting

Mountain bikes/Bicycles are huge investments. So you want to make sure it lasts for a long time but there are different things that occur like rust.

Yes, rusting can shorten the lifespan of many mountain bikes. So here are some tips to prevent your bicycle from rusting:

Keep Your Bike Oiled and Lubricated

Lubricant acts as a barrier between the elements and the metal on your bike. So as a bicycle owner, you should always have a supply of bike lubricant.

As long as there’s a layer of lubricant on exposed metal and your mountain bike chain it won’t rust.

Lubricant

Remember. To always keep your bicycle parts oiled and lubricated as this will prevent rusting. Make sure to apply lubricant to the chain, nuts, and bolts, basically anything that is exposed metal.

Keep Your Bike Covered if Outside

Leaving your bicycle outside means giving it a chance of rusting. Storing bicycles inside is important when not in use but this isn’t an option for everyone.

Moisture is the catalyst for rust or corrosion, so leaving your bike outdoors, where dew, rain, or snow can collect on it is never a good idea.

Moreover, Rust can cause parts to seize up and the gears and chain won’t be as smooth. If the frame begins to rust it will lose its structural strength.

Bike cover

Ideally, a shaded, climate-controlled environment is the best storage solution. Also, if you’re planning on leaving your bike outside at night then I would highly recommend getting a bike cover to place over your bike.

You need a cover that is big enough to keep moisture, fog, snow, or rain from getting on your bike. A nice cover will keep your bike dry.

As a bonus – it can keep the sun off your bike too which can cause the coloring on bicycles to fade and any plastic pieces to become brittle.

Keep Your Bike Clean

Dirt, soil, and mud are the major elements that can help rust begin on your bicycle. If your bike is getting dirty from riding then take the time to give it a quick wipe down to remove any dirt from it.

bike wash

It’s good to give your bike a cleaning every time you ride is the best solution to keep your bike dry and free of rusting elements.

Install fenders and frame protection on your new ride

Mountain bikes take a lot of abuse. Tires hurl dirt and rocks against the frame and splatter mud and grime onto the suspension and drivetrain. While you can’t completely protect your bike from the elements during a ride, using fenders and frame protection will greatly reduce the harm done.

fender

Debris can penetrate suspension internals as stanchions compress while soaking up bumps in the trail, and fenders serve to deflect dirt and mud away from sensitive parts.

Frame protection prevents rocks or other debris — which can create chips in the paint that expose the bare metal to the elements, leading to rust or corrosion — from hitting your frame.
