So here are some of the winter essentials for your car which might be helpful while traveling:

A gas can

Running out of gas can be a major headache at any time of the year, but it's worse in the winter.

You don't want to store fuel in your trunk, but keeping a small gas container in your car can save you from a tow.

Just walk or take a cab to the nearest gas station and fill this can.

With a capacity of just over two gallons, it will hold enough gas to get you to a gas station where you can refill your tank.

Jumper cables

You can't jump-start your car battery without jumper cables. It's as simple as that.

Low temperatures put additional strain on your battery and can turn a weak battery into a dead battery overnight.

Keep a pair of jumper cables in your trunk, especially if your battery is more than three years old.

If you turn your keys and nothing happens, you can get a jump from a friend, relative, or passing driver.

Spare tire

Carrying a spare tire in your vehicle can save you stress if you get a flat tire.

If your tires don't have good tread, you want to replace them before winter comes.

Driving in wet or icy conditions with bald tires is extremely dangerous and shouldn't be done.

Go for a quality set of all-season tires to run on your car during the winter months.

Flashlight

If you do end up with car troubles once night has fallen you’re going to want a flashlight and flares.

A flashlight can be useful for signaling to pass vehicles, digging around in the trunk after dark, or dealing with problems under the hood.

It will also be invaluable if you need to walk to get assistance at night.

First Aid Kit

You never know what you’ll need in an emergency.

Purchase a first aid kit or make your own with some bandages, adhesive tape, antibiotic ointment, scissors, gauze, and any medications you think you might need.

Blankets

If you driving during the winter, you might not dress for the elements.

In an emergency, getting caught without warm clothes could make it more difficult to deal with the situation at hand.

Keep a few blankets in your trunk, as well as any old sweatshirts, warm socks, boots, and thick pants that you don’t mind keeping in your car for the season.

When you own a car, you realize after a while that even if you try your best to keep it clean, dirty and bad smells are unavoidable. Here’s a look at common causes of car odors and how you can remove them:

Re-circulation Air

Every car allows you to re-circulate the air via the press of a button.

This helps fresh air to come inside the car interior and is advisable when you are eating on the move.

Likewise, if someone is having a smoke, roll down the windows a bit along with switching the air-con to the re-circulate mode.

Clean It Out

Avoid eating inside the car. If you do, roll down the windows slightly.

Every night when you park your car, make sure you throw out every possible trash into the dustbin.

This includes empty packets of strong-smelling chips, cigarettes, and even coffee cups.

You will be surprised to know how these little things can fill the car interiors with odor by the next morning.

A handy tip is to keep those black garbage bags in the boot and use them each night to pack all the trash and leftover items easily.

Air freshener

Invest in a good car perfume. You can never go wrong with these.

However, in summers, some of these do tend to leak a bit, so be wary of them.

A cheaper option is to use your favorite deodorant and spray it inside the car interiors but not directly onto a cabin part like a seat or dashboard.

Let it be in the air, close all the windows, and let the fragrance settle down. Likewise, you can even keep perfumed wet tissues under the seat.

Poke a couple of holes into the box as this will help the essence leak out slowly into the car interior.

Baking Soda

When you are concerned about spilled liquid waste items, baking soda or kitty litter can be used as an inexpensive absorbent.

All you need to do is sprinkle it on, rub it in and leave it for a few hours. It will then absorb any liquid and foul smells.

After a few hours, use a vacuum machine to clean out the car properly.

White Vinegar

White vinegar is the easiest solution for cleaning large surfaces.

You need to mix one part white vinegar with two parts water in a spray bottle and spray the solution onto the seats (repeat the process till the odor is gone).

It is a natural, antibacterial, and anti-fungal mix which makes it extra effective to fight against food or mold odors.

In the winter, the objective is to stay as warm as possible. However, there is a catch while aiming to stay warm in the car: with the heating on, it can be quite difficult to keep the glass screens, particularly the windshield, free of fog.

As a result, it's critical to maintain your windshield clear when driving. Here are a few tips that may be useful:

Wear Warm Clothes

Wearing suitable winter clothing is the greatest method to stay warm inside the car without fogging up the windows.

The simplest way to prevent the hassle is to dress warmly! Jackets, gloves, and socks are recommended so that you are completely covered and do not feel the need to switch on the warmth.

Warm-up Your Engine

The first and the foremost thing you need to do when you get inside your car is start your engine. Make sure that you let your engine run for a bit once you get in the car so you can let some of the fog dissipate.

You need to do this before you push the defroster button.

Open windows a little bit

If the exterior vents of your vehicle are blocked or you are unable to get fresh air in through the internal vents for some reason, opening the windows slightly will help.

This will allow new, dry air to replace the heavier, damp air that has accumulated within the vehicle. Once the fog on your screen has gone, you can roll your windows back up and switch on the warmth.

But be careful not to crack the window too much, as this can cause a drop in temperature as the cold winter air enters the car.

Clean Windows

The other thing you need to do is to ensure that your windows are properly cleaned and have no residue left on them.

Moreover, during the winter, keeping clean windows is more important than ever because not only will the dirt make it easier for the fog to build upon your window, but it will also make the fog a dirty color, making it harder to look through the window with the fog build-up.

Similarly, when cleaning your windows in the winter, make sure that you completely dry off your windows before leaving the car.

Use Hot Air with Air Conditioning

When you get inside the car make sure you set your car’s heat to the maximum level as hot air holds more moisture than cold air, so cranking up the heat will help collect moisture that contributes to a foggy windshield. Then, turn off your car’s heater and activate the air conditioner.

This helps pull moisture from the air as it moves over the air conditioner’s cooling coils.

Alternatively, you can also switch on the hot air to warm the vehicle and the air conditioner at the same time.

The air conditioner will dehumidify the air. This will give you the best of both worlds. A warm car, with a dry, clear window to see through.

The other ways to prevent your car from fogging up are as follows:

• Remove any damp items from the car. Try not to leave any beverages or wet umbrellas in the car.
• Apply an anti-fogging coating. There are several anti-fogging sprays on the market that you apply after cleaning the interior of the windscreen.
• You can also use cat litter as the cat litter will help draw out moisture from the air.
