Reviews

OnePlus 1 was the first phone to compete with the flagships of other companies like Samsung and Apple with fairly low price. Which earned them the name "Flagship Killer". But with the saturation of high-end budget phones, change in strategy was to be expected. OnePlus 7 Pro is the first phone from the company which has Pro attached to its name and has deviated from the original lineup of numbered phones as well as slightly improved version over numbered phones the T linep. OnePlus 7 Pro is the first phone from the company which has entered the Premium space. It is bigger, faster, and more expensive than any OnePlus device before it. Does this new premium phone from OnePlus justify the higher pricing ? Here is the full review of OnePlus 7 Pro.

Design

Even though OnePlus 7 Pro is the first phone from the company to deviate from the original lineup, it has not deviated from the designs. OnePlus 7 Pro has the same curved edges and bigger screen design which we saw and loved from the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T.

The OnePlus 7 Pro has a 6.67-inch display which is great for media consumption but is too large for the one hand use. The screen is made of Gorilla Glass 5. There is no notch to be seen thanks to its new pop-up camera which also gives the phone near bazel-less look.

On the rear phone has same soft-touch glass as the OnePlus 6T which has metal feel to it. The phone comes in two colors at launch, Nebula Blue and Mirror Grey, with an additional Almond color coming in the future. But additional colors are also expected in the future.

All the other OnePlus phones had one speaker grille on them, but OnePlus 7 Pro has dual stereo speakers one in the bottom and the second embedded in the top bazel. Speaker on the top bazel also functions as the earpiece for the phone. On the right side of the phone resides power button as well as physical mute slider switch and on the left volume rocker can be found. On the bottom phone houses USB-C port flanked by dual-sim slot on the left and speaker grille on the right. No 3.5mm jack can be seen.

Display

OnePlus 7 Pro is using a a high-quality Samsung AMOLED panel as its display. This enables functions like always-on-display. The Display is a QHD+ panel with the resolution of 1440 x 3120 pixels and the PPI count of 516. It also has higher refresh rate of 90hHz which makes animations and movement look more fluid than they would on a 60Hz screen. The display of OnePlus 7 Pro is one of the best smartphone displays. Colors are bright and vivid and higher refresh rate makes the gaming experience smoother. DisplayMate gave the OnePlus 7 Pro an A+ rating for the display which is the highest score awarded to the company. The panel also HDR10 and HDR+ compatible which means it is cabable of properly displaying content with more color and contrast information between pure black and pure white.

Cameras

OnePlus has never been known for producing a device with great cameras, so is the case with OnePlus 7 Pro. OnePlus to reduce the production cost in the past has always sacrificed the camera department. Even though Oneplus 7 Pro has great camera in the paper, performance is just okay. Device has triple camera setup with 48 MP, f/1.6 main camera which is supported by 8 MP, f/2.4, 78mm telephoto sensor and 16 MP, f/2.2, 13mm ultrawide sensor. Photos it takes are not bad. It can take really good photos if the lighting is right but camera performance is reduced largely if the lighting is dropped even slightly.

Selfies are taken care by the pop-up camera which cames out from the top of the phone. Sensor used in the front camera is a 16 MP, f/2.0 sensor. Images are sharp and have great color reproduction, and the lens is wide enough to fit a lot of people in the frame. Selfie camera also has a function who drops the phone frequently. The pop-up camera retract back into the phone if it senses fall, protecting the camera from the damage on impact.

Performance

OnePlus has the history of delivering one of the smoothest experiences on the market and OnePlus 7 Pro is no exception. OnePlus 7 Pro has the combination of the capable hardware and wonderful software making the phone great. Almost all the hardware used in the device are of cutting edge. The device features Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 7 nm 0cta-core processor which is the latest and fastest processor in the market giving the device fast and snappier feel.

The integrated Adreno 640 GPU has an impressive graphical performance meaning it can even handle any games thrown at it with ease. The device is well optimized, and never once felt a stutter or slowdown even when multiple apps and games were running in the background.

The device also features a 4000mAh battery which is 300mAh higher than OnePlus 6T. Battery life of the device is worst than the OnePlus 6T even though the capacity is higher thanks to higher refresh rate and QHD+ resolution. If the resolution and refresh rate of the display is reduced much better battery life can be achieved. On the other hand the phone comes with the support of 30W Warp Charging technology which can charge the device up to 50% in 20 minutes.

Software

Oxygen is one of the better and smoother running operating system in the market. It is even comparable to the stock android found in Google devices. OnePlus 7 Pro is running OxygenOS 9.5.7 based on Android 9.0 Pie. OnePlus was one of the first company to get the Android Pie Beta running in their devices so Android Q is also expected to come in the device as soon as it becomes available.

Oxygen OS is one of the best Android skin in the Market. It is clean and runs smoother than other Android skins thanks to its near stock android build. The OS is lightweight and has only necessary add-ons. This include Reading Mode, gaming Mode, Zen Mode, Fnatic Mode and finally Screen Recording.

Verdict

It has all the features and specs a Pro device should have. If you want to experience a Pro device without throwing 100k or more, OnePlus 7 Pro is a right choice for you.
