How 4K video affects climate change
"Watching a television show in standard defination lessens your devices carbon emission"
According to scientists at the UK's Royal Society, Watching a television show in standard definition can shave a little off your carbon emissions.
About eight times more emissions are said to be generated from 4K video streaming (Also known as Ultra HD) on a phone than standard definition(SD). The viewer rarely sees any difference between the 4K and SD on a small screen.
The scientists' report says digital technology’s estimated contribution to global emissions ranges from 1.4% to 5.9% of the global total.
Also turning off any accompanying video if people are just listening, not watching can be another way to save energy. Even such small moves are said to save up to 5% of the emissions from a streaming service.
Changing the phones after their wise usage can also help save energy. As during the manufacturing of phones, it emits about half of the emissions it will emit through its lifetime. A report says buying a device second-hand - or sharing equipment - also reduces the share of so-called "embodied emissions".
Also, Using the cloud rather than computing from home or business desktops can help save energy, for the cloud partners are more efficient for server use.
Digital revolution should take place supporting climate revolution.
