Hyundai IONIQ 5 bags a hattrick of awards at the WCOTY-2022 including the World Car of the Year

19th April 2022
"Hyundai IONIQ 5 was awarded the winner in three of the six different categories of awards in the World Car of the Year awards 2022."

Hyundai IONIQ 5 was awarded the winner in three of the six different categories of awards in the World Car of the Year awards 2022.

The electric car widely acclaimed for its performance won the World Electric Vehicle of the Year, the World Car Design of the Year, and the famed World Car of the Year.

In the Design of the Year category, IONIQ 5’s tasteful and futuristic design got the nod over the Audi e-Tron GT and Kia EV6. IONIQ 5 has a retro-modern design that tends to grow on anyone. Its rectangular head and tail lamps finished with sharp lines give it a bold feel like few others.

Similarly, in the newly created Electric Vehicle of the Year category the Korean crossover powered ahead of the Audi e-tron GT and the Mercedes EQS. The new category was developed to encourage the next generation of smart mobility. And the fact that Hyundai topped it shows its commitment to smart mobility for the eco-conscious future.

And finally, to top it all up, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 grabbed the titular World Car of the Year award 2022 beating the KIA EV6 and the Ford Mustang March E. Its win amidst all the other cars including the internal combustion engine car marks the remarkable progress the Electric cars have made.

The win is a testament to the IONIQ 5’s combination of power and utility.

The IONIQ 5 had been collecting rave reviews since its launch in the past year. And it was a deserved winner in three of the six categories in the WCOTY awards decided by a panel of 102 journalists from 33 different countries around the world.

This year’s win for the IONIQ 5, as well as the nomination of all EVs as the finalists of World Car of the Year, also marks a historical win for the Electric Vehicles over internal combustion engines.

The ongoing conversations about the need for sustainable mobility will probably take a more tangible turn with this historic record.
