Kia EV6 Shows South Korea Is Now A Major Electric Vehicle Contender
"Everyone is talking about how Tesla has changed the industry, and how new Chinese or reborn European brands are emerging from China"
The electric vehicle revolution is proving to be a game-changer in the automotive industry. Everyone is talking about how Tesla has changed the industry, and how new Chinese or reborn European brands are emerging from China. South Korea, on the other hand, tends to see EVs as a direct chance to take a larger slice of the vehicle sales pie.
The EV6 belongs to the famous “crossover utility vehicle” (CUV) class, which is roughly halfway between SUVs and standard vehicles, with a slightly higher ride height than the latter but no off-roading 4x4 capabilities (in most cases). However, in terms of CUVs, it looks a lot like a normal vehicle. The EV6 is much sleeker than the Ioniq 5, which had a vague air of the AMC Pacer about it. It has also been compared to the Jaguar I-Pace, one of the best-looking EVs yet.
The efficiency and range are the most important features. Kia offers a range of powertrain options, including two different rear motor power levels and three different all-wheel-drive power levels. There are two battery sizes available: 58kWh and 77.4kWh. These are divided among three trim levels: the entry-level EV6, the EV6 GT-Line, and the top-of-the-line EV6 GT. The latter is the star of the show, thanks to its 430kW (577hp) dual motors and larger battery, which Kia says will give it a range of "over 510km" (319 miles).
The performance figures are also remarkable, with a 0-62mph running performance of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 260km/h predicted (163mph). The Tesla Model 3 is slightly faster, but the Tesla Model Y, which is slightly slower, would be a more direct competitor. The range also appears to be superior to the Model Y Results. Kia also reports that 800V charging can produce 10 to 80 percent battery capacity in just 18 minutes, or 100 kilometers (62 miles) in under 4.5 minutes.
There will be plenty of cargo space, with 520 litres standard and 1,300 litres with the rear seats folded down. This is significantly less than a Tesla Model Y, but significantly more than a Model 3. The EV6 will also have a small frunk in the front, and it will be rated to tow up to 1,600kg. The Kia EV6, like the Ioniq 5, will have an external power output capable of producing up to 3.6kW, which is perhaps the most revolutionary practicality feature. This means you'll be able to comfortably control appliances when camping.
So far, the EV6 appears to be a competitor in terms of specifications, though the less powerful versions will not be as fast as the GT. While no pricing has been released for the United States, pricing for the United Kingdom is available and looks very promising. The EV6 is priced at £40,895 ($56,500), £43,895 ($60,650), and £58,295 ($80,500) for the base model. The GT is £1,695 ($2300) less expensive than the Tesla Model 3 Output and starts at £2,595 ($3,600).
When comparing Tesla pricing in the UK and the US, it's highly likely that the EV6 will be cheaper on the other side of the Atlantic than our US dollar conversions. The Tesla Model Y, which is a possible rival, is also $5,000 more expensive than the Model 3. The Kia EV6 is likely to be highly competitive on range and output with Tesla's Model 3 and Y, despite the fact that we don't know the complete specification for the models below the GT other than engine power and battery capacities.
