Tesla Model 3 reportedly explodes in Shanghai parking garage
"The company has increased the output of its factory in Shanghai, even shipping Chinese-made cars to Europe. "
On Tuesday, a Tesla Model 3 exploded in a Shanghai underground residential parking garage, Chinese media announced.
There were no people injured in the blast, said Tesla in a statement to the Chinese media. The car manufacturer added in the news that initial evaluations show that an impact was caused by the crash.
Whether the affected model 3 was locally manufactured or imported was not immediately clear.
China's Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) manufacturing giant said that it hadn't produced the battery pack for the automobile which, according to Chinese media, was exploded.
Over the years, Tesla vehicles, even in the United States, have exploded.
Tesla sent a group in April 2019 to inspect one of its car parks in Shanghai, an apparent explosion.
For other factors, such as its self-driving technology, Elon Musk's electric cars have been scrutinized in China. Earlier this month, the state-owned Economic Information Daily reported that at least 10 incidents of drivers losing control of their Tesla vehicles in China occurred in a commentary in 2020.
Tesla's Model 3 has been the best seller electric car in China last year, according to the Chinese Passenger Car Association, although there is increasing competition from several Chinese electric car start-ups such as Nio.
After its opening just over a year ago, the company has increased the output of its factory in Shanghai, even shipping Chinese-made cars to Europe.
Tesla today declared that the deliveries of its Chinese-made Model Y had been officially started.
