Nepali original technology ’Barsha Pump’ successful in international competition

Aqysta Nepal, producer of the world-famous Barsha pump has been victorious in the Water and Energy for Food (WE4F) Grand Challenge.
Along with Aqysta Nepal, 14 other companies from related fields were the winners of this competition organized by South and Southeast Asia Regional Innovation Hub. The competition was amongst technology that provides water and energy to aid agricultural production.
Several countries from South Asian South East Asia had participated in the competition. The main prize of the competition is a cash amount of $2 million which is awarded to 11 competitors.
Aqysta Nepal had presented the sophisticated version of the old Barsha Pump, High Pump. High Pump, similar to Barsha Pump, utilizes the energy from the flow of rivers and canals to pump water without requiring any fuel or electricity to be operated, for irrigation purposes.
Barsha pump can pump the water up to 20 meters, whereas a High Pump can pump the water up to 200 meters. Barsha Pump produced by Aqysta Nepal is being used in 23 countries and the High Pump will soon be ready to be installed for business purposes.
The first Call for Innovation awardees are from seven countries in the region and fall into three major innovation types: water-ag technology, energy-ag technology, and digital solutions that can be a combination of technologies.
The WE4F South and Southeast Asia Regional Innovation Hub (a consortium of Tetra Tech, CrossBoundary, and Devworks International) supports the scaling-up of energy and/or water-efficient innovations in 16 countries, with a focus on women and the poor. Innovations include technologies, business and finance models, and new modes of cooperation.
