Bajaj Auto claims to be the leading motorcycle manufacturer in India in April 2021, with 348,173 units sold globally, including domestic and export sales. According to the brand, the Pune-based two-wheeler manufacturer shipped 221,603 units to foreign markets last month. Furthermore, the company stated that it is the third-largest manufacturer of motorcycles and the largest manufacturer of three-wheelers in the world.
According to a statement issued by Bajaj Auto, the automaker is the world's most valuable two-wheeler company, with a market capitalization of 110,864 crores, nearly double that of India's next largest two-wheeler company, Hero MotoCorp.
According to Bajaj Auto, it already leads the Indian motorcycle exports segment, accounting for nearly 60% of the country's motorcycle and three-wheeler exports in 2020. In the previous fiscal year, Bajaj Auto earned a total of 12,687 crores from exports to 79 countries. Bajaj Auto's global sales have earned more than $14 billion in foreign exchange over the last decade, according to the company.
Aside from the Indian market, Bajaj Auto has a strong presence in Africa and some European markets, with both commuter and high-performance motorcycles.
Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director, Bajaj Auto, commented on the company's sales performance, saying that the company's wide range of motorcycles covers the entire spectrum from entry, middle, and up to premium level segments, allowing it to engage with a wide range of customers from the moto-taxi driver in Africa to the adventure seeker in Europe. "Despite the challenging environment," he added, "we have started FY2022 on a very positive note."
He also stated that this versatility is extremely valuable in managing current volatility and uncertainty, as well as keeping the wheels of business turning for all of the company's stakeholders. According to Sharma, Bajaj Auto plans to expand its network to 24 more cities in the coming year in order to grow its business.
The company has also announced a 50 crore investment in a fourth plant to be built in Chakan, Maharashtra. This will assist the brand in meeting the growing global demand for its products. The fourth plant will only produce premium motorcycles and the Chetak electric scooter, for which the brand has recently resumed bookings.
