Google will give you the new Chromecast for free if you pay for one month of YouTube TV

1st October 2020
"But only for first-time YouTube TV subscribers"

Google just announced a new Chromecast yesterday, and the company is already offering a good deal on one — all you have to do is sign up for YouTube TV and pay for one month of the service. If you want to take advantage of the deal, you should be able to access it here.

There are a few caveats, however. You can only take advantage of this if you’re a first-time YouTube TV subscriber, according to the deal’s terms. You then have to make a payment toward your YouTube TV subscription between October 15th and December 31st in order to receive the offer for the free Chromecast. And the deal is only available in the US.

You should also know that paying $64.99 for one month of YouTube TV costs more than just buying the new Chromecast on its own for $49.99. But if you’ve had your eye on both YouTube TV and the new device, this could be a great deal for you.

The new Chromecast officially named the “Chromecast with Google TV,” differs from its predecessors in having an onboard operating system and a dedicated remote. It also does 4K and supports a large number of streaming services.

Google Maps update includes more detailed colorful images

18th August 2020
"Google maps to be more distinguished and detailed to help differentiate streets, crosswalk, pathways, etc."

In addition to helping you find your way, the latest Google Maps update will help you know more details about any given area at a glance. Starting this week, Google will shade maps with colors based on satellite imagery so you can easily tell the difference between forests and beaches. The update will be available worldwide and will cover a variety of natural and manmade features.

While the refined color palette is meant to help you understand regional features, a future update will offer more detail on a much smaller scale. Google says it will roll out more granular info on streets so you can see their exact size at scale in addition to the locations of sidewalks, crosswalks and pedestrian islands.

The more detailed street images will start rolling out in London, New York and San Francisco in the coming months.

Google announced both changes in a blog post on Tuesday, but didn't offer a timeline on a broader rollout of the more granular view.

The color mapping update will supposedly not just be for large landscape features either. Google will use computer imagery to show more coloration on areas such as cities, suburbs and rural towns.

YouTube has removed more than 11.4 million videos

26th August 2020
"The videos were removed between April and June this year."

YouTube has removed more than 11.4 million videos in the second quarter of this year.

The company said in a statement that the videos, which were found to be against the company's standards and guidelines, had been removed.

The company has clarified that the videos had to be removed based on the complaints received about the videos and its own evaluation.

According to the company, the videos were removed between April and June this year. The company had previously removed less than 9 million videos in 2019. The company estimates that more videos have been removed this year than last.

"Responsibility to society and to human beings is our top priority, and we have removed some of the video content with the conclusion that it interferes," the company said in a statement.

The company is also vigilant about child protection and preventing violence, the statement said.

YouTube has been tightening its standards and guidelines following growing criticism that its popularity as a popular social network is growing with each passing day.

Alphabet's YouTube to launch TikTok-like product

14th September 2020
"YouTube is rolling out its version of social media rival TikTok"

Alphabet Inc’s YouTube is rolling out its version of social media rival TikTok, a new short-form video service called Shorts, enabled within its video-sharing platform.

YouTube will first test the feature in India over the next few days and then expand to more countries in the coming months, it said in a blog post on Monday.

YouTube’s new product, which will compete with Facebook Inc’s Reels and TikTok, will let users record short mobile-friendly vertical videos and then add special effects and soundtracks pulled from a music library.

The announcement also comes as Oracle Corp and China’s ByteDance team up to keep TikTok operating in the United States, beating Microsoft Corp in a deal structured as a partnership rather than an outright sale.

YouTube’s entry into the short-form video service space coincides with TikTok’s ban in one of its biggest market, India, following the country’s escalating tensions with China.
