Tips to Keep Your Bike Free From Rust

"When a metal is exposed to oxygen and moisture, a natural process called corrosion occurs that converts the metal to rust."

When a metal is exposed to oxygen and moisture, a natural process called corrosion occurs that converts the metal to rust.

The metal parts of the motorcycles also rust if it’s not taken care of properly.

In this article we have a few methods of preventing your motorcycle from rusting:

Cover:

We usually don’t have a habit or let’s say we don’t have time for covering our bike. But do you know how important is it to cover your bike?

Covering the motorcycle means protecting it from rain, dust, and different particles to protect it from rusting.

Cover

You should always park your motorcycle in sheltered areas such as a covered lot or garage. Also, use a motorcycle cover if you don't have access to a garage.

Moreover, if you have to park out in the open, it is very important for you to invest in a motorcycle cover to protect your bike from rain, frost, and dew.

Anti-Corrosion Products:

The first and foremost thing you need to do is remove any developing rust spots as soon as possible.

You need to repair affected areas damaged by rust to prevent them from rusting again.

Anti-corrosion

Moreover, to prevent your motorcycle coat all metal parts and surfaces with an anti-corrosion product or corrosion protectant from time to time.

Wash and Wax:

Remember, the more you wash your motorcycle with a quality bike wash, the better protected it is against rust.

Wash

Always, wash your motorcycle to remove chemicals that can accelerate the corrosion process from time to time and apply a coat or two of wax to all painted parts such as the fuel tank, fenders, and side covers because moisture will work its way down into any small scratches or pore in the paintwork, but a couple of layers of wax repel that moisture.

How often should I give my motorcycle for servicing?

1st November 2020
"Keep your bike high and your head even higher."

This is a very difficult question to answer with specificity. All motorcycles aren’t the same. A sports bike, for example, is optimized for speed, while a touring bike is designed for endurance and effectiveness. As a consequence, when it comes to having a facility, they may have very different criteria.

When to give your motorcycle for servicing?

garage

Checking your individual textbook is what you ought to do. Every manual would state that, based on your bike's CC, you need to have the bike tested after a certain amount of kilometers, usually about 4000-6000KM, or at least once a year Even if you don't hit that number before then.

Furthermore, as a rider, how much you take the motor for a tune-up depends on you. On summer weekends, you could only take your bike out for a ride, or you can rely on it virtually every day to get you to and from work.

When you think of moving it to a specialized garage, how much it is used and the lengths it drives can affect it.

5 things to avoid severe servicing of your motorcycle.

  • Tuning the carburetor every 2 years.

  • Flushing the Cooling system every two years if you have a water-cooled engine.

  • Changing your oil every 4000-6000 Km or every month. Whichever comes first!

  • Lubing the motorcycle chain and checking the pressure on it every 6000 KM or every month. Whichever comes first!

  • Checking the tyre pressure every month.

Ensuring that the bike undergoes routine servicing should allow for the detection and handling of any possible issues before they become serious. In addition, it is also possible to perform simple maintenance activities including oil replacement, which will keep the wheels working smoothly.

You should look for a dealership where the mechanics are up-to-date on all the new specifications for your particular model while searching for places to take your motorcycle.

Remember to simply take it to the garage and ask if you have any questions about the way your cycle works. The technicians are likely to be able to carry out a complete fault diagnosis for you and help you locate the issue.

Simple Steps to Check Wheel Alignment in a Motorcycle

25th December 2020
"Tires that are unevenly worn out?"

Is the handling of your motorcycle odd? Tires that are unevenly worn out? A chain that makes strange sounds? Believe it or not, the cause of all these disorders might be a severe misalignment of the front and rear wheels.

We're talking to the location of the rear wheel in the swingarm when we speak about wheel orientation, and hence its alignment with the frame and the front wheel. The front wheel is not adjustable, but in the dropouts, the rear wheel can change. That's important for chain-slack alteration, but it also implies that the wheel may be out of whack.

In comparison, properly balanced wheels make the journey more comfortable because the ride would be easy to control and more stable with a properly aligned wheel. A non-aligned wheel, on the other side, will make you face tragic injuries and put your life at risk. Today, in order to have a safe and stress-free journey, we provide you with some easy steps on how to verify the wheel alignment of your two-wheeler.

wheel-alignment

Steps on how to check wheel alignment:

1. To allow each wheel to spin freely, place the motorcycle on the center stand.

2. Double the string such that half of its initial length is its length.

3. Now tie this string to the rear wheel so that the middle of the folded end of the string is placed right at the center of the tyre’s surface area.

4. In order to make it stable at a fixed location, stick this end with tape.

5. Take both ends towards the front wheel of this string. The advantage of attaching the middle of the string to the center of the rear tyre is that, with respect to the front tyre, the two free ends of the string would now stop at the same length.

6. Attach both ends of the string to the ruler after you are finished with the above move and put this ruler on the front tyre surface area in such a way that there is no bend.

7. Ensuring that the rope is parallel to the ground, connected from the rear tyre to the front.

8. In addition, it is important to tie the string to the ruler in such a way that the distance between the two open ends is equal to the width of the rear tyre. As the front tyre's width is less than that of the rear tyre, there would be a difference on both sides of the front tyre (between tyre surface and string).

9. Measure the distance on both sides by using a ruler. Notice the original readings and spin the wheel a little bit after that. Repeat the process several times each time with regard to wheel rotation.

10. If the wheel orientation is correct, so that will be equal to the readings on both sides of the wheel. If the difference between the holes stays stable after many rotations, either your bike has flawless wheel alignment, or else it needs to be better aligned.
