28th April 2019
"The safety does not only mean the safety for the riders but the pedestrians and other moving vehicles on the road."

Motorcycle junkies are all over the town. They ride their bike with such enthusiasm and a keen interest in speed, they sometimes forget about safety. The safety does not only mean the safety for the riders but the pedestrians and other moving vehicles on the road. Here are five basic riding tips:

1) Preheating the Engine

Before riding your bike, make sure that you preheat the engine for a couple of minutes to avoid the abrupt killing of the engine in the middle of the road. For this, kill your engine and try kick-starting it three times. After that, switch on the engine button, and kick start it. Make sure that your bike is neutral when you do that.

2) Always wear a Helmet

A helmet is a basic gadget for a bike rider. It saves the head from getting injured. But, it’s not only the rider who should be wearing the helmet but the person sitting in the pillion. There are ranges of helmets to choose from depending upon your personality or the bike you are riding.

3) Adjusting the Mirror

Another basic thing to consider is the side mirror of the motorcycle. When the mirrors are adjusted properly, you can ride your bike without any inconvenience of what is coming from the back. With this, you can easily cross the lanes without turning your head backward. But shoulder crossing must be done to check on the other moving vehicles nearby that cannot be seen in the mirror.

4) Headlight Mantra

Professional bikers’ advise the riders to keep the headlight dim so that the passerby is not troubled due to the blind spot created by the high beams of light. In case the passerby has a high light right in front of you, simply blink the passing light a couple of times. This action tends to be the universal sign saying, “The highlight is troubling me, please make it dim.”

5) Overtaking from the Right Side

Overtaking must always be done from the right-hand side because we don’t know what the vehicle in front of us is going to do next. The doors of the buses and other vehicles are opened from the left to get to the side of the road. Overtaking from the left-hand side might cause severe accidents. However, overtaking must not be done at all when there are sharp turnings creating a blind spot.
