Mercedes-Benz has finally revealed its flagship EQS sedan after weeks of teasers and updates. The German automaker has a slew of new electric vehicles ready to hit the market under its dedicated EV sub-brand EQ. The EQS, the electric alternative to the Mercedes S Class, was unveiled in secret, revealing an ultra-luxurious and tech-focused sedan. The Mercedes-Benz EQS 2022 is the brand's first dedicated electric vehicle, as well as the first of Mercedes' EQ brand to be introduced in the United States.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan, due in 2022, will be the German automaker's electrified future flagship and one of the most luxurious electric vehicles ever built. Although its curvaceous bodywork is designed to glide through the air effortlessly for maximum performance, its opulent cabin is outfitted with luxury appointments and cutting-edge technology to deliver the all-important wow factor.
Mercedes-Benz will enter the premium electric vehicle market with the EQS 2022. The EQS, inspired by the F015 model, aims to establish Mercedes' presence in the electric-vehicle market by starting at the top, with the world's lowest drag coefficient (0.20), the world's largest in-car screen (56 inches), and up to 516 horsepower.

The technology that piqued our interest, and nowhere more so than on the optional glass-covered Hyperscreen dashboard. The interior of the vehicle looks more like a cabin from a futuristic spaceship than an automobile.
It has panels that run almost the entire length of the dashboard. It's also the first time the MBUX Hyperscreen has been used, which is a large glass dashboard with three separate information screens – an instrument cluster, a center infotainment center, and a passenger-side auxiliary touchscreen.
The Hyper screen, which consists of three screens and is covered in a single sheet of Gorilla Glass that spans the entire dashboard. The monitor in the instrument panel is a standard LCD, but the middle and passenger screens are OLED, which provides more light and contrast. The new screen is paired with a new “Zero Layer” MBUX user interface architecture, which layers machine-learning-powered widgets over a 3D map of the vehicle's surroundings. The widgets, which can monitor everything from air conditioning to radio to phone (and more), learn from the driver's behavior, and gradually anticipate desires and surface knowledge based on user trends.
If you do not select the Hyperscreen option, you will be given a single 12.8-inch portrait-orientation monitor that will be positioned tablet-style in front of the steering wheel.
The EV sedan is available with either a 329-hp rear-drive (EQS450+) or a 516-hp all-wheel-drive powertrain (EQS580 4Matic). Both are powered by a massive 107.8-kWh battery with a range of more than 300 miles. Both EQS models are powered by a lithium-ion battery pack with a functional capacity of 107.8 kWh. The EPA-estimated driving range of the sedan has not been revealed by Mercedes, but based on the less demanding European WLTP test period, it should be adequate for about 478 miles.
The more restricted EPA-rated range is greater than 300 miles in our opinion. In addition to charging the battery from 10 to 100 percent in around 11 hours and 15 minutes using a 240-volt (Level 2) converter, the EQS is reportedly capable of charging the battery from 70 % to 100 % in around 35 minutes using a DC quick charger.
Driver-assistance technology is standard on the EQS 2022. The optional driver-assistance features on the 2022 EQS include adaptive cruise control and self-parking assist. The price of the EQS has yet to be determined by the automaker, but industry insiders predict it will comfortably exceed $100,000. In 2021, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class starts at $94,000 and rises to $160,000.
