In Karnataka, Tesla will set up an electric-car manufacturing facility, the southern Indian state's government said in a brief statement.

On Saturday, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa officially confirmed the decision, according to the India Today news organization. The announcement was part of the list of benefits promised in the Union budget for Karnataka.

"American firm Tesla will open a electric-car manufacturing unit in Karnataka," the statement by Yediyurappa said.

Tesla Motors India and Energy Private Limited were incorporated by the electric car manufacturer last month, with its registered office in the city of Bengaluru.

Musk, the richest man in the world, has tweeted several times about his desire to enter the Indian market. In December 2020, he verified that his company Tesla will launch in the country this year.

India has been interested in reducing its dependence on oil to minimize pollution, but its efforts to promote electric vehicles have been hindered by a lack of investment in manufacturing and infrastructure, such as charging stations.

The Indian authorities are planning to offer $4.6 billion (€3.80 billion) in incentives to companies setting up advanced battery manufacturing facilities.

Tesla To Recall 135,000 U.S. Vehicles Under Pressure From Auto Safety Regulator - Reviews

3rd February 2021
"Tesla To Recall 135,000 U.S. Vehicles Under Pressure From Auto Safety Regulator."

Tesla Inc. has agreed to recall 134,951 Model S and Model X vehicles with touchscreen displays that could fail and raise the risk of a crash following a request by U.S. auto safety regulators last month, according to a recall posted on the Government website on Tuesday.

The National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) made an unusual request for recall. 13 A letter to Tesla stating that it had formally concluded the 2012-2018 Model S and the 2016-2018 Model X vehicles pose a safety issue. Automakers usually agree to voluntary fixes before the Auto Safety Agency formally requests a recall.

The Agency noted that touchscreen failures posed significant safety issues, including loss of rearview or backup camera images, exterior turn signal lighting, and windshield defogging and defrosting systems that "may decrease the driver’s visibility in inclement weather."

By 27 January, NHTSA had asked Tesla to respond to its request for recall. Tesla agreed to the recall on the same day, the company said.

Tesla said in its filing with NHTSA that "in the interest of bringing administrative closure to the investigation and to ensure the best ownership experience for our customers" it agreed to a voluntary recall.

NHTSA opened a probe in June 2020 into complaints that media control unit (MCU) failures led to touchscreen displays not working.

NHTSA said last month that "during our review of the data, Tesla provided confirmation that all units will inevitably fail given the memory device’s finite storage capacity."

Many complaints told Tesla that the owners had to pay to replace the unit after the warranties had expired. Tesla will replace the defective part and pay back customers who have paid to replace the part that failed because to lifetime wear.

Tesla acknowledged the problem but said if the display was not working, "the driver can perform a shoulder check and use the mirrors. If the screen is not visible to control the climate control and defroster settings, the driver will be able to manually clear the windshield."

The recall will begin on 30 March. NHTSA requested a recall of 158,000 vehicles, but Tesla stated that the recall does not include some vehicles with upgraded processors built after March 2018.
