UK to allow Huawei to build their 5G infrastructure

29th January 2020
"The UK government came out with a final decision about foreign involvement into the development of 5G and gigabit-capable networks. Press Release states that it will allow "high risk" vendors to help build the network under strict restrictions."

Huwaei is considered the pioneer of 5G technology but due to Geo-Political dispute between the company and the U.S., Huawei is considered the high-risk factor. Recently The UK government came out with a final decision about foreign involvement in the development of 5G and gigabit-capable networks. Press Release states that it will allow "high risk" vendors to help build the network under strict restrictions.

Even though Huawei was not mentioned in the press release directly, the use of high-risk vendors in the press release may refer to the company along with ZTE. The U.S has been pressuring the country to not include Huawei in their 5G development but despite the pressure, UK will allow so-called high-risk vendors to participate in the 5G deployment albeit under certain conditions.

Some of those conditions includes, equipment used for building the 5G network from Huawei shouldn't exceed 35%, excluded from all safety-related and safety-critical networks in Critical National Infrastructure, excluded from security-critical ‘core’ functions, the sensitive part of the network and excluded from sensitive geographic locations, such as nuclear sites and military bases.
