OnePlus 8T gets Canvas AOD with new feature OxygenOS 11 update

19th October 2020
"The first OxygenOS update for the OnePlus 8T adds to the phone the new Canvas AOD feature and other optimisations."

OnePlus recently unveiled its latest smartphone, the OnePlus 8T. The phone brings some powerful hardware and pairs it with interesting features to bring a flagship-level experience to users. Now to improve this experience, the company has started to roll-out the first OS update for the device which interestingly adds a new feature and brings optimizations for existing ones.

As per reports, the first OxygenOS update for the OnePlus 8T adds to the phone the new Canvas AOD feature. First spotted late last month in the second OxygenOS 11 Beta release for the OnePlus 8 series, these new features bring more customization to the AOD of the phone by adding the option of a wireframe sketch of your device’s lock screen wallpaper. Reports suggest this feature, for now, is currently in beta, and it can be found within the Wallpaper settings.

Along with this, the update to Oxygen 11 OS also brings optimizations to improve the unlock experience for Ambient Display, power consumption, nightscape mode for video, white balance accuracy, and also enhances camera app stability.

To remind our readers, the OnePlus 8T features a 6.55-inch display with support for a high resolution of 2400x1080 pixels and a pixel density of 402ppi. The 20:9 aspect ratio phone is also capable of working at a high refresh rate of 120Hz.

Under the hood, we have the trusted Snapdragon 865 SoC which has been paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR4 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The core hardware may not be the fastest available right now, but it still looks quite good powerful. As for the software, the phone's hardware has been paired with a clean copy of Android 11 based Oxygen OS.

The OnePlus 8T also comes with a quad-camera set-up with a Sony IMX586 48-megapixel sensor at the heart of it. The lens has an aperture of F/1.7. The lens also supports OIS and EIS. The phone also gets a 16-megapixel ultra-wide lens with a field of view of 123-degrees. There's also a 5-megapixel macro camera and a 2-megapixel monochrome lens on the device.

Compared to its predecessor, the OnePlus 8T brings a slightly bigger 4500mAh battery which can be charged at almost double the speed compared to the OnePlus 8 battery. With the OnePlus 8T, the company has now migrated to a new charging standard that it calls the Warp Charge 65.

OnePlus 8T Charging: Not Just 65W Wrap Charge But Also Support 45W PD Protocol

27th September 2020
"This time the OnePlus 8T brings a dual C cable + C port charging head, which is safe, more convenient and costly but worth it."

OnePlus 8T 5G launch will take place on October 14, and it has confirmed that it will feature the same 120Hz Fluid AMOLED display as the One Plus 8 Pro. Other rumored specs include a Snapdragon 865 SoC, a 48MP quad-camera, and up to 12GB of RAM.

This morning, OnePlus Technology CEO Pete Lau Weibo previewed the new phone and said that this time the OnePlus 8T brings a dual C cable + C port charging head, which is not only safe enough but also makes charging more convenient, costly but worth it. Pete Lau emphasized that from 2015, OnePlus was the first to use the USB Type-C port. The increasing number of Type-C devices on the market since then has verified that we’re on the right track. It is also one of our judgments about the future trend of homogenized interfaces.

OnePlus 8T not only supports 65W ultra-fast flash charging, but also factory standard with a C-port fast-charge head, which can charge the 8T, but also compatible with PD protocol fast charging, and the fastest can provide 45W PD fast charging. This way, you can power your Macbook, C-port computer, PD protocol fast-charging mobile phone, game console, and other devices.

Pete Lau said, if I were to give a new definition of flagship now, then I think at least three years is still smooth to be called a true flagship. To stand the test of time, this should be the huge benefit of buying a flagship, and the OnePlus 8T is ready for your next three years.

OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei left the company, to start a new venture

12th October 2020
"The reports about Carl Pei leaving OnePlus could represent the biggest shake-up at the company since its inception 7 years ago."

Ahead of the launch of its new smartphone, the OnePlus 8T, the company's co-founder, Carl Pei has announced that he is leaving the company. The news comes as not only a shock to millions of OnePlus fans this morning but also as the biggest shake-up at OnePlus since it was first started 7 years ago.

The news comes courtesy of a leaked post by Reddit user, JonSigur, who has reportedly published alleged screenshots of internal memos at OnePlus which reveal the information. While the memos don't reveal Pei's next destination, it does claim to reveal a leadership change at the company.

The memos note Emily Dai, who is currently in charge of the company's operations in India, will be appointed as the head of the Nord product line globally. This is interesting as Pei was previously in charge of the Nord phone series.

In a separate article published on its website, Tech Crunch appears to have confirmed the news by claiming to sources close to the matter have confirmed to it that Pei is indeed leaving the company. At the time of writing Android has also published a story corroborating the news that Pei has left OnePlus.

While it remains unknown if Pei's departure from the company was on mutual terms, reports suggest that he could have indeed been fired. However, this could also be pure speculation with more on the matter expected to be revealed in the coming days.
