Hyundai Nexo scores five-star Green NCAP rating

2nd March 2021
"Nexo is the third Hyundai model to receive a maximum five-star rating."

Hyundai Nexo, the brand's second-generation fuel cell electric vehicle has managed to score a maximum five-star rating from Green NCAP.

Green NCAP ranks electric vehicles based on their energy efficiency and emissions.

Being a fuel cell electric car, the Nexo draws power from Hydrogen and produces distilled water as the only emission. Nexo has scored full points on both the Clean Air and Greenhouse Gas index. On top of that, the car also managed to achieve an excellent rating for energy efficiency.

The Nexo fuel cell electric car is the technological flagship of Hyundai. It is an SUV crossover that comes based on electrified technology featuring modern driver assistance functions and the latest design features.

It is the third Hyundai model to have received a maximum five-star rating. Previously, its Ioniq and Kona Electric have also scored five-star rating from Green NCAP.

We're proud to announce that Nexo is the latest Hyundai model to have been awarded a five-star Green NCAP rating, joining the ranks of Ioniq and Kona Electric. This is further proof that we are achieving our goal of making high-quality, eco-friendly mobility solutions available to all," says Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, Vice President Marketing and Product at Hyundai Motor Europe.

The final rating of the car was based on three indices with several metrics each - clean air, energy efficiency, and greenhouse gases. Being a fuel cell electric car, the Nexo draws power from Hydrogen and produces distilled water as the only emission.

Nexo has scored full points on both the Clean Air and Greenhouse Gas index. On top of that, the car also managed to achieve an excellent rating for energy efficiency.

Hyundai focusing more on Hydrogen-Powered Vehicles

2nd November 2019
"Hyundai and Kia were anticipated to achieve a "greater growth" in addition to its hydrogen and electric vehicle vision scheduled to be on display in the upcoming China International Import Expo (CIIE)"

Hyundai Motor Group, South Korea's automotive behemoth, aimed to continue guaranteeing its future growth in tandem with China's reform and opening-up, a Hyundai executive said.
"Since entering the Chinese market in 2002, Hyundai Motor and (its affiliate) Kia Motors have been a part of China's rapidly expanding automotive sector that was enabled by the reform and opening-up," Kim Sae Hoon, vice president and head of fuel cell center at Hyundai, said in an interview.
Side by side with China's reform and opening-up, Hyundai and Kia were anticipated to achieve a "greater growth" in addition to its hydrogen and electric vehicle vision scheduled to be on display in the upcoming China International Import Expo (CIIE), Kim noted.  The second CIIE, to be held in Shanghai from Nov. 5 to 10, will bring together more than 3,000 companies from about 150 countries and regions.
For the second CIIE, Hyundai prepared contents showcasing hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicle, fuel-cell technologies, electric vehicle concept car, and future mobility, Kim noted.
The Hyundai executive said China paid much attention to hydrogen-powered electric vehicles, forecasting that China would lead the fuel-cell electric vehicle market if the global standard of relevant regulations is set up.
Kim noted that Hyundai will more closely cooperate with Chinese companies for the mass-production of hydrogen-powered vehicles, which will eventually reduce production costs.
"We aim to lead China's increasingly advancing automotive market, using our world-class eco-friendly technologies and investments in clean mobility areas, encompassing electric, fuel-cell electric and other vehicles," Kim said.
