Is Isuzu Hi-Lander for you?

"Should you seriously consider buying Isuzu’s budget pick-up?"

Should you seriously consider buying Isuzu’s budget pick-up?

Exterior

While not unpleasant to look at, the Isuzu Hi-Lander's exterior isn't particularly noteworthy. It's built on the famous Isuzu D-Max platform, so it’s no surprise that it looks a lot like it.

A dark-grey grille sits in the front fascia, flanked by a pair of halogen headlamps. Underneath, body-colored bumpers are mounted. The Isuzu Hi-Lander embodies the uncomplicated pickup silhouette from the profile. The body is supported by 16-inch steel hubs that are clad in wheel covers.

They work well because they don't look too small in the wheel arches and look adequate for budget collection. The ORVMs are also painted dark grey, and the 'Hi-Lander' badge is located beneath them.

The front fascia features a dark-grey grille flanked by halogen headlamps. Underneath, body-colored bumpers are installed. The Isuzu Hi-Lander profile embodies the uncomplicated pickup silhouette.

The body is supported by 16-inch hubs made of steel with wheel pads. They work well because they don't look too small in the wheel arches and look adequate for budget collection. The ORVMs also has a dark gray coloration, and under them is the 'Hello-Lander' badge.

The back is supported by an essential vertical halogen taillight configuration with built-in indicators. An HMSL (High Mounted Stop Lamp) can be found on the back panel above the large rear window. You get a D-Max badge, a chrome door handle, and another badge on the tailgate that lets you know about the 2.5 Turbo Diesel Intercooler. The bed for the cargo is large, but the liner is not provided.

Performance

A 2.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine is under the hood which produces a maximal capacity of 134 BHP and a peak power of 320NM. This motor is connected to a manual 5-speed gearbox.

The Isuzu Hi-Lander does what a vehicle in the range should, even though it may not win any races. The way power is delivered has a sense of maturity. The Hi-Lander leaves the line and starts relaxingly. The pickup finds its way in the mid rev ranges. Naturally, it can be difficult to find this sweet spot in busy traffic.

The Isuzu Hi-Lander responds with enthusiasm on open roads. On your right foot. The Hi-Lander is easy to watch miles and if you are behind the wheels, you are interested in doing the same thing. When overtaking manoeuvres, the output of power inspires confidence.

Interior and Features

Within the cabin, the color scheme is grey and black. The use of hard scratchy plastic is plentiful, as you would expect from a budget pick-up. However, some practical and up-to-date features can be found inside the Isuzu Hi-Lander hall. A 7-inch infotainment system, which does no other than Bluetooth or AUX, is located in the center of the dashboard. It's reactive, but it's going to be a little time.

The system also took a few attempts, but it worked flawlessly when it was connected. The screen also functions as the reverse camera display.

There are large and comfortable front and rear seats. The cabinet contains useful armchairs and cup holders. You will find a recess on the dash where your phone can be stored. However, we recommend that you do not use this place when driving in difficult off-road sections unless you are willing to see your cell phone flying around. You get bottles of a mineral water bottle and a few other snacks on every door.

The door switchboard is controlled by the window. The driver side window is fitted with all windows and buttons for the doors and windows to be locked. You will, however, see that there are no ORVM switches, so you have to adjust them.

The manual air condition effectively cools the cabin, which is useful in the summer. Retro-visibility is facilitated by a large rear window panel. The ORVMs are also large enough to ensure that you know what is happening around you. In conjunction with the high-view point, your environment can easily be seen when this huge machine is driven.

Overall, Isuzu Hi-Lander manages to incorporate useful characteristics and compartments to balance the budgetary limitations of interior design and components.

Judgment

Highly aggressive price tags are brought to the field by the Isuzu Hi-Lander. Furthermore, the Hi-Lander ticks a pick-up truck for the right box.

The decision to purchase the Isuzu Hi-Lander is influenced by the type of person you are and the type of vehicle you desire. Do you want people to be impressed by your stylish ride? Do you want a lavish interior that is plush and full of features? If so, the Isuzu Hi-Lander is not for you.

However, if you enjoy getting things done, aren't concerned with appearance, enjoy driving long distances with little worry, and smile and wave as you pass fancy cars struggling to make it up a rough hill, the Isuzu Hi-Lander should be on your list. To answer the question, yes, it is for you.

"The new Isuzu D-MAX performed impressively in the current 2017-2020 assessment with a total scorinscore of 83.16 points and was awarded a 5-Star ASEAN NCAP rating."

The New Car Assessment Programme for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) kicked-off 2020 by releasing its latest result on the new Isuzu D-MAX. This is the second assessment that ASEAN NCAP performed on the pickup truck with the first done in 2014. In the 2014 ASEAN NCAP assessment, the D-MAX was awarded a 4-Star rating for both Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP) categories with 11.87 over 16.00 points for the former and 71% compliance for the latter category.

The new Isuzu D-MAX performed impressively in the current 2017-2020 assessment with a total scorinscore of 83.16 points and was awarded a 5-Star ASEAN NCAP rating. The D-MAX’s overall score was based on 42.72 points for the AOP category, 21.83 points for COP and 18.61 points for Safety Assist Technologies (SATs).

Isuzu equipped the new model with two airbags, an anti-lock braking system and a seatbelt reminder system for both frontal occupants as standard equipment across all its variants. It also offers electronic stability control and blind-spot technology on both sides of the truck as optional fitment in all its available market countries across South East Asia.

MIROS Director-General and ASEAN NCAP Chairperson, Ts. Dr. Siti Zaharah Ishak said:

“We had a good start this year with the amazing result from the new Isuzu D-MAX. I would like to wish a heartfelt congratulations to Isuzu for their persistent effort to ensure the model has both passive and active safety technologies that are not only to protect the vehicle occupants but also to avoid collision with motorcycles. We encourage other manufacturers who have not been assessed by ASEAN NCAP to play an active role by elevating the safety performance of your vehicles. Through this concerted effort, we’ll be able to halve the number of road fatalities and serious injuries in this region.”

ASEAN NCAP Secretary-General, Professor (Adjunct) Ir. Dr. Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim said:

“The new Isuzu D-MAX is the first pickup truck that ASEAN NCAP tested under the current 2017-2020 protocol. The new pickup truck has several remarkable enhancements in both passive and active safety technologies compared to the previous tested model. We are proud that the first pickup we tested has achieved a 5-Star rating and we are also pleased Isuzu has made blind spot technology available in this model as optional fitment so that consumers have the privilege to equip the technology in their purchased truck. We look forward to seeing more pickups with such safety technologies in the ASEAN region, particularly aligning their safety fitment with ASEAN NCAP requirements.”

  • The new Isuzu D-MAX successfully attained a 5-Star ASEAN NCAP rating with total scoring points of 83.16. The pickup scored 42.72 points for the AOP assessment, 21.83 points for COP and 18.61 points for the SATs category.
