The sun is shining, spring flowers are blooming, and summer is on its way!

With Summer quickly approaching, learn how to keep your garden looking lovely all season long with key summer gardening ideas.

Fertilize

There are many different types of fertilizer on the market, so make sure to choose one that will work best in your garden. Because most soil does not give enough nutrients to plants and flowers, the healthiest gardens utilize some form of fertilizer.

A mid-summer application to brighten and condition throughout the hottest months.

Watering Schedule

Watering plants is best done in the early morning or late evening, while the weather is still cool.

This allows the water to trickle down into the soil and reach the plant's roots without losing too much water to evaporation.

Shrub Pruning

Many spring-flowering shrubs, such as Philadelphus and Weigela, should be pruned in early summer.

Prune off newly finished flowering growth down to an outward-facing bud, as well as any damaged or crossing branches inside the shrub, which should be removed either to acceptable growth or altogether.
