THE ALL-NEW 2022 FORD MAVERICK HYBRID COMPACT PICKUP WILL DEBUT JUNE 8
THE ALL-NEW 2022 FORD MAVERICK HYBRID COMPACT PICKUP WILL DEBUT JUNE 8
4th June 2021
"The Maverick is expected arrive by the end of the year in US market."
Months of rumors, spy shots and speculation have all led to this moment. It’s true – Ford is adding an all-new compact pickup to the lineup, and it’s called Maverick.
Ford will reveal a new pickup truck next week on Tuesday, June 8. It's a compact pickup that'll be smaller and cheaper than the body-on-frame Ranger mid-size truck.
It's also likely to share powertrains with the Bronco Sport, and that SUV's optional 250-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four could be an option. There should be a less powerful choice for the cheaper base model as well. Both front- and all-wheel drive should be available.
The Maverick is expected arrive by the end of the year in US market.
Ford Ranger's small sibling could be named Maverick

"As per leaked reports, Ford has a small pickup truck in the works, and it looks like Maverick might be the name."
The Fast Lane Truck published a CAD image of a tailgate that clearly includes the name "Maverick" on the back, and it's obviously a more representative drawing would include a Ford badge below the tailgate handle. What else would go in the decidedly Ford-badge-shaped area? It's worth noting Ford's already applied to trademark the Maverick name in the past, and it was originally thought the name would grace what we now know as the Bronco Sport.
Adding credibility to the choice of the Maverick name is the appearance of the name in an internal Ford parts catalogue, and the commercial vehicle blog also leaked what it claims is a CAD drawing of the rear tailgate for the Focus-based ute.
The tailgate image made its way to a General Motors fan forum where a user published a thread potentially detailing information on the Maverick small pickup as well. Granted, these are rumours, but the Maverick is supposedly tied to a small crossover.
Both the crossover and truck will ride on Ford's C2 platform, which underpins plenty of smaller Ford crossovers, the Transit Connect and even the latest Focus. Earlier information also pegged a new pickup to ride on the Focus' platform, so we're potentially starting to see the breadcrumbs lead somewhere. What we shouldn't expect is a super-tough, off-road-ready pickup since this will likely not be a body-on-frame kind of deal.
If the info turns out true, the Maverick will sport a few small-displacement engines ranging from a 1.5 L inline-three engine to a 2.5 L inline-four with hybrid gear. The crossover and pickup projects should help give Ford a couple of different vehicles to target buyers will be cheaper than Ford Ranger.
