Apple Music launches a TV channel for music videos

19th October 2020
"Apple Music TV is a free, 24-hour, curated live stream of popular music videos"

Today, Apple launches Apple Music TV, which is exactly what it sounds like: Apple Music on television. It’s a free, curated, 24-hour live stream of popular music videos (though it’s only available to US residents); you can watch it in the browse tabs of the Apple Music app and on the Apple TV app.

Apple Music TV is interesting because it seems like a direct shot at YouTube’s dominance of the music video space. The new channel will host video premieres at noon ET every Friday — starting with Joji’s “777” and Saint Jhn’s “Gorgeous” on the 23rd — and it’ll be a home for the other original content Apple Music has created over the years, like concert films and interviews. On the 22nd, the channel will play host to Bruce Springsteen, the Boss himself, in advance of his upcoming album Letter to You with dedicated music video blocks, a live stream, and an exclusive interview with Zane Lowe.

And it feels like Apple is throwing its weight around. Today, for instance, the service is running through a countdown of the top 100 most streamed songs on Apple Music as a kickoff event. While it remains to be seen whether Apple can unseat YouTube (RIP to MTV), it’s fascinating to watch it try something new.

iPad Air (2020)- Price, Specs and Expected Price in Nepal

21st October 2020
"Apple has launched IPad Air (2020) with bigger screen and better performance."

Apple has launched IPad Air (2020); and one must accept that the features, processor, and everything one gets in this iPad at such a price is reasonable. Even though the price of the iPad is relatively higher this time, it is worth buying as it has the powerful A14 Bionic Chipset, relatively larger screen, and many more advanced features.

IPad Air Design

The iPad Air is relatively larger than its predecessor as it has a 10.9-inches display. The iPad has now switched to squared-off sides and round corners. The Liquid Retina display has support for True Tone and Wide Color (P3). Likewise, the display of the iPad is fully laminated, and it has an additional coating to avoid fingerprints and reflection. As the size of the display has been increased, the Touch ID has also been shifted to the top right corner of the device in a relatively smaller size. However, the front camera is still on the side when you hold the iPad in landscape. So prepare to have your eyes looking way off to the right or left when you’re on Zoom calls.

If you have been using the previous 8th Gen iPad, then you may have to reconsider buying the accessories as well. The cable is different and other second-gen accessories are also used on the iPad.

Performance and Memory

The new iPad Air has the most powerful chipset of all i.e. A14 Bionic chipset. It is the main highlight of the iPad, and also a major reason for you to purchase the iPad. The same processor is used in the newly launched iPhone 12 series as well. The iPad features an improved Hexa-core CPU and quad-core graphics unit. With the new setup, Apple is claiming up to a 40% boost in CPU and a 30% boost in graphics performance compared to the last generation iPad Air that featured the A12 Bionic.

As for the storage, iPad Air is available in two storage variants i.e. 64GB and 256GB. One is too cramped while the other is $150 expensive than the first one. This is the most unsatisfying part of the iPad Air. If it had a 128GB variant, then no customer would have to feel disturbed.

Camera

As in the iPad Pro and iPhone 11, the iPad Air features a 12MP wide camera at the rear. It can record up to 4k videos; however, there is no ultra-wide or any other sensor. At the front, iPad Air has a 7MP facetime camera. Both cameras use backside illumination technology and support Smart HDR and Auto Image Stabilization.

iPad Air Specifications

  • Display- 10.98-inches LED-backlit IPS Retina Display; 500 nits; 2360 x 1640 pixels
  • OS- iPadOS 14
  • Chipset- Apple A14 Bionic
  • Storage- 64GB or 256GB
  • Rear Camera- 12MP, f/1.8 (wide)
  • Selfie Camera- 7MP, f/2.0
  • Sensors- Accelerometer, Ambient Light, Barometer, Three-axis Gyro
  • Battery- 28.6 Wh Li-Poly battery
  • Charger- 20W USB C charger

Price and Availability in Nepal

Apple iPad Air (2020) is on sale starting from September 18 with price starting at $599 and $729 for Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + Cellular model with 64GB respectively, and $749 and $879 for Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + Cellular model with 256GB respectively. The iPad Air will be launched in Nepal after some time starting with the price Nrs. 78,000, Nrs. 92,000, Nrs. 98,000, and Nrs. 115,000

Apple may shift iPad MacBook manufacturing from China to Vietnam

20th October 2021
"The shift is said to be in response to the trade war"

Apple has asked Foxconn to move some iPad and MacBook manufacturing capacity to Vietnam, Reuters reports. The assembly lines are set to start production in the first half of next year at Foxconn’s Bac Giang province, according to Reuters’ source, who notes that Apple wants to diversify its supply chain due to the ongoing trade disputes between the US and China.

Reuters’ report doesn’t state which iPad or Mac models will be assembled in Vietnam, nor what proportion of Apple’s total production will shift out of China. But these wouldn’t be the first Apple products to be assembled in Vietnam — Apple started producing AirPods Pro units there earlier this year. Apple has also used India for the production of certain iPhone models for a while, although that mostly predates the US-China trade war and helps the company meet local import regulations.

Nikkei reported earlier this week that Foxconn is planning a $270 million investment in Vietnam to expand its manufacturing capacity. The Taiwanese company is said to be moving more than 30 percent of its production lines outside China.
